Are you “pterrified” of Pteridophytes? Do you break into a cold sweat at the sight of twice and thrice-pinnate foliage? Or worse, think they all look the same? If so, join the Botanical Club of Wisconsin on Tuesday, January 16th at 6:30 PM for a Ferns and Lycophytes workshop with Chris Noll, wetland biologist with the WI DNR.
Ferns and Lycophytes, with their lack of flowering structures, can seem challenging to the uninitiated but most* are not as complicated as they seem. This session will help you learn how to see their key features and walk through the differences between frequently encountered and confused species of quillworts, club mosses, horsetails, and of course – ferns. Vouchers will be on display for practice and closer inspection.
* Unfortunately, a few are actually more complicated, which will be conveniently ignored for this session …cough Botrychium, Cystopteris J
