In 1952 Parfrey’s Glen near Devil's Lake State Park was established as the first State Natural Area in Wisconsin. Since then 686 more SNAs have been added. This system of sites dedicated to protecting the best examples of Wisconsin's natural communities was the first such system in the country and is one of the things that has made Wisconsin a leader in conservation. For the last ten years, Josh Mayer has visited over 500 SNAs across the state in an attempt to check out the unique plants, animals, geologic features, and natural communities that they protect. Josh will discuss stories from his quest to visit every State Natural Area, the plants he's found, and share some the amazing photos he has taken.
