Take Your (whole) Map System with You, or have Your Raspberry Pi, and Map with It Too
Bio: I am interested in Business Intelligence and data management, specifically spatially based data. I am currently employed as a GIS Systems Developer at the City of Saint Paul, MN. I've also gained experience from my community and volunteer work at SharedGeo in the field of information management. I'm self taught in the field and began my career before titles existed for any type of digital data management. I’ve worked my way up through the ranks and have front line experience in the business areas related to Public Works Engineering and records management. This work also relates to other City departments of which I'm currently managing digital data for. My experience with the City has afforded me the opportunity to become familiar and work with many different, new, and evolving technologies. From these experiences I've developed successful methods for providing digital information to City personnel and its customers.

The need: to see a online mapping system interface on multiple devices in the field no matter the connectivity level, even in a standalone mode, completely self contained. Join us as we describe our efforts at building a Mapping interface that can run completely self contained on the second generation Raspberry Pi (RPi2), a sub $40 computer. Topic covered: Hardware, which model RPi and why, Open Source software stack used and why, capabilities of the system, Some thoughts about the future, networking, and a demo.of a working model.
