Initial Training for New Personal Tutors (PATS)
Workshop Description
This workshop is for staff who are currently involved with teaching our Sheffield Medical Students and are interested in becoming a personal tutor. It provides an opportunity for you to learn about the curriculum and how the personal tutoring system is facilitated in the Medical School. The session explores different mentoring styles and uses interactive activities to work through scenarios. The session will be running as a face-to-face or online workshop and will last 3 hours.
Aims
This training session is designed to enable participants to explore best practice in supporting their tutees
Learning Outcomes
Increase understanding about the PAT scheme at the Medical School and the role of a PAT
Explore effective ways to communicate with and support students
Review the structure of PAT meetings and introduce the student E-portfolio
Discuss common challenges that students face and explore strategies to support them
Increase awareness on the support services that are available for students
