Professional Recognition

Get recognition for your educational practice

What is it?

You can evidence your engagement with continual professional development, improve your practice and gain professional recognition for your contributions to learning and teaching. You can gain recognition from Academy of Medical Educators ( AoME) or The Higher Education Academy (HEA) .

AoME Recognition

The Medical School Recognition scheme is open to all staff who teach Sheffield medical students both clinical and academic. Recognition is aligned to the AoME professional standards that define the level of competence that medical educators should achieve at each point in their careers.

HEA Recognition

The University's Learning and Teaching Professional Recognition Scheme (LTPRS) is open to Sheffield University staff members. Recognition is aligned to the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) that outlines the Dimensions of Professional Practice with HE teaching and learning support.

The Medical School Recognition Scheme

Successful completion of our recognition pathway will lead to recognition from the Academy of Medical Education (AoME). While this is not a qualification, it is recognised across the sector, nationally and internationally. You can get recognition at one of three levels:

  • Associate member

  • Member

  • Fellow

Participate

We facilitate regular training to introduce the Medical School Recognition Scheme and support you in developing your application. Please see the What's On calendar to see upcoming events.

What are my options?

You can gain recognition through participating in either of:

  1. Course-based pathway

All of our taught courses and programmes are AoME accredited, with recognition requirements embedded in course assignments.

  1. Portfolio-based pathway

We can support you to gain recognition for your contributions to teaching, mentoring or educational research guided by training events, peer mentoring and peer development of teaching and supporting developing your educational portfolio.

The diagram outlines the Medical School recognition scheme to help you identify which pathway is most suitable for you.
