We have finally made it till the end of term. It has certainly been a busy and successful two modules. With Year 11 and Year 10 taking their GCSES and Mock examinations and organising transitions we are certainly ready for the summer break.
SEND Transition
The SEND champions made a wonderful powerpoint presentation in supporting our new Year 7 cohort. They wanted to create a presentation that would inform our new students on the key information that they will need for September. The presentation has been shown multiple times and has been a huge success. The SEN champions also supported our SEN transition morning. They discussed how Sir Geoffrey Leigh supports all students with SEN and also raising awareness of ASD and ADHD. Thank you SEN champions for all your help and support.
Hanna - Year 9 has been taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and is on track to achieve her bronze. Well done Hanna!
Ava - Year 8 achieved great success in Sports Day! She achieved best athlete! Well done Ava!
ADHD Award
Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy is currently undertaking the ADHD Friendly Schools Award which will further develop understanding of how ADHD presents and the barriers too. All being well SGLA will be on track to receive the award in September 2025. This will further embed our inclusive practice.
Inclusion Celebration Afternoon
Our Inclusion community celebrated the great success of this year by participating in a hub party. The students made pencil cases, built towers and made fairy bread. They even went on stage and danced the Cha Cha Slide. Thank you to the LSA team who organised the activities to make the afternoon a great success.
Thank yous and Farewell
I am very sad to say that I will be leaving at the end of this module. I will miss you all. Thank you to my amazing dedicated staff in the SEND department who daily go above and beyond. Thank you to my lovely students and families too. I have enjoyed being on the journey with you and wish everyone all the best. Miss Smith will be the new SENCO in September and I am sure you will all give her a warm welcome.
We will also be saying goodbye to Miss Sturgess who will not be going too far as she will continue at SGLA and be teaching PE.
We wish our Year 11’s every success on result days for their GCSE exams and on their new adventures.
I wish you all a wonderful well deserved Summer break.
