We are delighted to present this overview of the Business Department's remarkable achievements over the past academic year. It has been a period of significant progress, marked by exceptional student dedication, innovative teaching, and truly impressive outcomes across all key stages. Our students have not only demonstrated a profound understanding of business principles but have also cultivated critical skills that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future academic and professional pursuits. We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and, most importantly, our ambitious students for making this such a successful year.
Our Year 13 students have concluded their programmes with an inspiring display of academic excellence and readiness for their next steps.
LIBF Finance: We are immensely proud to announce the outstanding performance of our LIBF Finance students. They have successfully completed all units of work, with a significant number achieving the highest possible grades of A and A*. This exceptional cohort has developed a sophisticated understanding of financial markets and personal finance, equipping them with invaluable knowledge for their university studies and beyond. Their success is a testament to their rigorous commitment and our specialised curriculum.
BTEC Business: Our BTEC Business students have concluded their vocational journey by successfully completing their final coursework units. Notably, they mastered Unit 8: Recruitment and Selection, gaining practical insights into the human resources landscape, and Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance, solidifying their financial literacy. The diligence and professionalism demonstrated in these applied units highlight their readiness for industry or further education.
IB Business Management: The International Baccalaureate (IB) Business Management cohort has achieved an truly impressive average point score (APS) of 31.80. This represents a significant increase from last year's average of 29, underscoring a marked improvement in student attainment and a deeper engagement with the challenging IB curriculum. This outstanding result reflects the students' critical thinking, global awareness, and the rigorous support provided by the department.
Our Year 11 GCSE Business students have successfully navigated their final examinations with commendable resilience and enthusiasm. Having completed their assessments, there is a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation among the students as they look forward to receiving their results and embarking on their post-16 pathways. Their commitment throughout the challenging exam period was truly inspiring.
Year 10 students in Business have concluded their academic year with a strong performance in their end-of-year assessments. We are particularly pleased to report that a substantial number of students achieved grades of 5 or higher, indicating a robust grasp of foundational business concepts and a promising trajectory for their GCSE studies next year. Their dedication sets an excellent precedent for their final year of the GCSE programme.
As we transition into the summer months, we wish you all a restful, rejuvenating, and safe break. This period offers a valuable opportunity to recharge and reflect before we embark on new challenges and opportunities.
For Our Aspiring Business Leaders: Summer Engagement Opportunities
While the summer offers a well-deserved rest, it also presents a fantastic opportunity for our business students to deepen their understanding and curiosity about the commercial world around them. We encourage them to engage with business in practical and enjoyable ways:
Read & Explore: Dive into captivating business biographies (e.g., Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson), explore books on innovation, economics, or marketing. Titles like Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, or Nudge by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein offer fascinating insights into human behaviour and decision-making within economic contexts.
Watch & Learn: Consider exploring documentaries or series that illuminate the world of business. Popular options include "Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates" (Netflix), "Dirty Money" (Netflix), "The Social Dilemma" (Netflix), or episodes of "The Apprentice" or "Dragon's Den" (BBC iPlayer) for insights into entrepreneurial pitches. Keeping up with business news channels (e.g., BBC News Business, Bloomberg) can also offer real-time understanding of global markets.
Engage & Experience: If opportunities arise, consider volunteering, taking on a part-time job, or even starting a small personal project or enterprise. Observing how local businesses operate, or visiting relevant exhibitions or museums (such as the Museum of Brands in London), can provide valuable real-world context to their studies.
Stay Curious: Encourage discussions with family and friends about current economic trends, ethical business practices, or innovative startups. Every business interaction, from a supermarket trip to online shopping, offers a chance to observe marketing, supply chains, and consumer behaviour.
We eagerly anticipate welcoming our students back in September, ready to build upon this year's successes and continue fostering an environment where ambition thrives and potential is realised. We are excited about the prospects for the new academic year and remain committed to delivering an outstanding and relevant Business education.
Thank you once again for being an integral part of our journey.
