We are very excited that Ms. Grozdanic will be joining us as another Assistant Head of College in Mandela from Module 1. She will be working alongside Ms. Marshall, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs Tuck and myself, as the academy continues to grow.
Year 11 have had a hectic few months, working hard and completing their GCSE and BTEC examinations. We are proud of how hard they have worked, and look forward to seeing them for results day on Thursday 21st August!
It was lovely to welcome them back to the academy for their final leavers' assembly, and share the laughter (and tears), as we took a trip back down memory lane to 2020, and watched how they have grown, both in size, but also in confidence. They faced the challenges of the Pandemic, and I'm proud of the resilient young adults that they have become despite the start that they had to their secondary schooling.
It was also wonderful to see so many of them looking absolutely stunning and so joyful at their Year 11 Leavers' Prom on 27th June.
We are so proud of them and look forward to seeing them embark on the next stage of their educational journey!
Sports Day Successes
Once again, Mandela students came together to work as a team, putting in a strong performance at all of the Sports Day events. The competition was fierce from the other colleges, this year and we just missed out to Shakespeare College by 7 points!! Well done to everyone that took part, but in particular congratulations to the students below that have put on some stellar performances, not only at the academy Sports Day but the Leigh Academies Trust event as well!
Josiah - Year 8 Academy Student of the year and also LAT Year 8 male student of the year!
Ava - Year 8 Academy Student of the year!
There were also some fantastic individual performances across all of the different Sports Day events, especially at the LAT Sports Day. Our winners are below:
Samuel Year 9 1500m
Amily Year 9 Javelin
League of Excellence 2025
It has been a wonderful year for our students. They have worked hard, ensuring that they are punctual, attend regularly and adhere to our 3 "Rs" of "Respect", "Responsibility" and "Resilience" in the classroom and beyond! This is why, I'm so proud that Mandela College is top of the League of Excellence Table for the academic year! Well done to you all.
A sad farewell and thank you......
To Ms. Hooper who is leaving us this Module. She has become an integral part of the Mandela community, and we are sad to say goodbye. Ms. Hooper will be a Student Services Manager at another Leigh Academies Trust school from September.
I'd like to thank Ms. Marshall, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Tuck and Ms. Hooper for their support of both me, and the college. They have worked tirelessly to support our students, challenging them to be the best the can and aiming high, but making sure that they have the best care when things don't go to plan.
On behalf of them, I'd like to wish all of our students and their families a wonderful and safe holiday. We look forward to our students returning fully-charged for even greater success next academic year!
