What an absolutely phenomenal year it has been for football at our school! – Year 7, Year 8, and Year 10 successfully battled their way through to the District Cup Finals! This remarkable feat speaks volumes about the talent, dedication, and teamwork fostered across all age groups.
However, the standout story of the season belongs unequivocally to our magnificent Year 8 team, who not only reached the District Cup Final but emerged as the undisputed CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations once again to all our Year 7, 8, and 9 footballers on an unforgettable season. Your achievements have brought immense pride to the school, and we eagerly anticipate what the future holds for these talented young athletes!
On Wednesday 18th June the Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy hosted the inaugural sports awards evening, where awards in a wide range of sports were given out to highlight the success that we have had as an academy this year.
We also had Charlton Athletic striker Daniel Kanu in attendance to hand out the awards and give a motivational speech.
Shakespeare College secured their college winners sports day victory with a narrow win over Mandela college. Please see the overall point scores below:

What an absolutely exhilarating and incredibly busy summer it has been for athletics at our school! Our athletes have truly outdone themselves, pushing boundaries and achieving remarkable success across a range of competitions. Their dedication, talent, and sheer hard work have made this a season to remember.
In a format where all athletes are required to take part in 2 events (1 track and 1 field) the boys had to come out of their comfort zone and master events such as the hammer, discus and triple jump. All members of the team performed exceptionally well, achieving many personal best. The stand out was Josiah who earned 40 points for the team in the shot and 300m.

The summer saw a packed schedule of eight different sports days, each a vibrant celebration of athletic prowess and competitive spirit. What made these events truly special was the sheer number of School Records that were shattered – many of which had stood for over a decade! From blistering sprint times to incredible jumps and throws, our students consistently delivered outstandingng new benchmarks for future generations. Majeed - 100m NEW RECORD of 11.68, breaking the record from 2015
Eddie - 800m NEW RECORD of 2.15.06, breaking record from 2015
Jalen - Long Jump NEW RECORD of 5 metres 30cm beating the record from 2016
Josiah - 400m NEW RECORD of 57.19. He also won the Outstanding athlete of the day award by winning the 400m, shot and javelin.
Tiffany - 800m NEW RECORD of 2.54.68 the record from 800m record which had stood since 2013.
Sophie - NEW RECORDS in 800m and 1500m of 2.52.57 (800m) and 5.46.01 (1500m). The 1500m record had stood since 2009.
Our prowess extended indoors, where both our Year 7 and Year 8 teams became champions in their respective Sports Hall Athletics competitions! These events, demanding agility, speed, and teamwork in a dynamic indoor environment, saw our youngest athletes demonstrate incredible skill and coordination. Their victories are a fantastic indicator of the strong foundations being built in our junior years and promise a bright future for our athletics program.
What a truly magnificent day it was at the recent LAT Sports Day, where our school, Sir Geoffrey Leigh, competed with distinction against 17 other schools within the trust! The atmosphere was electric, the competition fierce, and the spirit displayed by all participants was truly commendable.
Our athletes rose to the occasion with incredible determination and talent, making it an exceptionally successful day for the school. We are thrilled to announce that Sir Geoffrey Leigh finished in the top 4 across all the boys' and girls' competitions! This remarkable consistency across every age group and event is a testament to the depth of athletic talent and the hard work put in by our students.

Another successful journey to Stoke-on-Trent saw Sir Geoffrey Leigh School compete with outstanding distinction at the British Schools Gymnastics Association (BSGA) Regional Finals! Our talented gymnasts showcased incredible skill, dedication, and teamwork, bringing home remarkable results.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our Boys U14 Floor and Vault team were crowned South East Regional Champions! Their routines on the floor demonstrated exceptional artistry and precision, while their vaults were executed with power and control. This victory is a testament to their rigorous training and the seamless coordination within the team.
Adding to the excitement, Sir Geoffrey Leigh made history by entering the Mixed U14 Floor and Vault South East Regional event for the very first time. And what a debut it was! Our Mixed U14 team also emerged as Regional Champions!
Following their triumphant performances at the regional finals, our Boys U14 team will now proudly advance to the National Finals!
What an absolutely historic and thrilling day it was at the British Schools Gymnastics Association (BSGA) National Finals! Our Boys U14 team, representing Sir Geoffrey Leigh School, travelled to Stoke-on-Trent with determination and returned with an incredible achievement that will be etched into our school's history books.
Competing against the very best young gymnasts from across the entire country, our Boys U14 Floor and Vault team delivered a truly spectacular performance.
We are bursting with immense pride to announce that our Boys U14 Floor and Vault team secured a magnificent bronze medal at the National Finals! This is an absolutely monumental achievement, marking the first medal our school has ever achieved at this prestigious national event!
This bronze medal is not just a testament to their individual talent and hard work, but also to their incredible teamwork and resilience. They pushed themselves to their limits, supported each other every step of the way, and stood tall on the national podium.
The dedication and hard work demonstrated by every member of the Sports Council have been nothing short of exemplary. They have consistently gone above and beyond, providing invaluable support for a vast array of events, both internal school competitions and those involving local schools.
From setting up and officiating at numerous inter-house sports days and athletics competitions, to assisting with the logistics of district finals and regional events, the Sports Council has been an indispensable force. Their commitment ensured the smooth running and success of every occasion, often working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything was perfect.
The Sports Council members are a shining example of leadership, responsibility, and passion for sport. They are a true credit to the PE department and should be immensely proud of their hard work and the significant positive impact they have had this year. Their efforts have not only facilitated numerous sporting opportunities but have also inspired younger students and fostered a vibrant sporting culture within our school and beyond.

On Tuesday 18th March we travelled down to the jumpers rebound centre to take part in the Kent Trampoline competition. Having worked so hard on their routines the girls were ready to step up to the intermediate category and show off their skills against 38 other performers. All girls did extremely well showing their confidence and risk taking ability.
Brooke, Cristina, Kirsty and Sophie placed 3rd as a team and were extremely happy with their performance. Special mentions to Cristina who learnt the routine in a week in order to complete the team and Brooke who came 8/42 competitors.

After a considerable absence, we are thrilled to announce the successful return of rugby to Sir Geoffrey Leigh School! It has been a while since we fielded a dedicated rugby team, and this year marks a significant and exciting step in rebuilding our presence in this dynamic sport.
