Roni Rohr’s arts program for El Dorado Community School has been recognized as outstanding in the arts within New Mexico and Nationally. Ms. Rohr is a 2016 New Mexico Golden Apple Awardee and received a Teacher Who Inspires from Partners in Education. She has also received the 2015 Middle School Art Educator of the Year award and the 2011 Elementary Art Educator of the Year in New Mexico from the National Art Education Association. Ms. Rohr is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Art.
An experienced designer and illustrator, Ms. Rohr graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology having studied Textile Design, and has worked for Hallmark Cards, Disney, and many others creating her own lines of gift-wrap, textiles, toys etc. As a past president of the New Mexico Art Education Association she has presented workshops from Choice Based Art, the use of the National Art Standards to Graffiti! Leading through teaching, she is an educational consultant for Scholastic Arts Magazine, creates workshops with Meow Wolf (She developed their educational space!) , works with the New Mexico Museums and has created emerging P.D. for other school districts.
Ms. Rohr is passionate about Art-making, Social Justice and Collaborative projects. For 14 years she has brought her expertise in Design Thinking, Visual Literacy & Choice Based learning to El Dorado Community School. She believes in children; their ideas, their art and in their ability to remind us that the best way to learn is by thinking out of the box, having fun, laughing a lot and making art!
