It has been a great start to the new year! We have had the honor of hosting Mr. Edward Lucas, the foreign correspondent of The Independent and a senior editor at The Economist last week present to over thirty students and staff via zoom. It was a wonderful learning experience for the Creative Writing Club and members of the Serra Friar to learn more about the process of becoming a professional writer or journalist. Furthermore, Raul has begun yet another series called Mikey Appleton and the emotional complexity of the characters and their vivid interactions bring the story to life! Great work Raul! Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Enzo De Angelis
“Well, I should probably say who I am… I’m Mikey Appleton. Well, I don’t really know how things are going.”
Moderator's note: The 1986 annual issue of 451 Press is a collection especially rich with poetry and short fiction. Serra junior Jim Shissler--who, judging by volume and content was obviously a student particularly interested in writing--was a major contributor to the issue. Here are two poems from him that are good examples of his thoughtfulness and craft.- Mr. V.-K.
