October 2023 Fear Factor

From the Secretary

Here is our first issue of the 2023-2024 school year! The club is more than excited to start writing again.

Mason has created a short, yet meaningful poem about the will to take risks throughout life in comparison to a car. Isaiah has finally finished his Halloween series that he began freshmen year with an intricate story about overcoming challenges within senior year from the perspective of a someone who experiences a strange and creepy Halloween. Our newest member of the Club, Charlie, has written a first chapter for a science-fiction novel that will leave you both bewildered and desperate for more.

We are thrilled for this new school year and the amazing pieces of writing that will come.

Sincerely,

Enzo De Angelis

Mason's work

¨. . . explore the world, our secrets shall we keep, with every mile, a story is told . . . ¨

Charlie's work

¨. . . a portal causing sparks to fly across the room . . .¨

Isaiah's work

¨As they got closer their faces were covered and the less and less they looked like kids . . .¨

From the Archives

Moderator's note:  The Creative Writing Club of 2008-2009 practiced flash fiction -- stories of 1000 words or less.  Two of the works from that year's  anthology harmonized with this "Fear Factor" issue.  The first, by Robert Gill, makes one consider how fright, being an emotion, is also subjective.  That which is a delight to some may spell doom for others. The second work is a compilation by four of that year's writers, each one picking up the story as it was given to them by the previous author(s). Notice how each writer develops different emotional and tonal elements.    - Mr. V.-K.
