Use layer masks, adjustment layers, and gradient maps to create a pop-art style portrait
Mask and crop effectively
Use complimentary colour combinations (Colour theory!)
Use pop artists, like Andy Warhol, as inspiration
Marilyn (Various), 1967, Andy Warhol
Take a photo of yourself, find a stock image, or a photo of your favourite athlete or celebrity (Unsplash is a great resource for images). A picture with a plain background will work best.
Remove the background using a layer mask
Adjust the threshold of the subject of the image
Add a gradient map to add colours and choose a contrasting background
Repeat so that you have a total of 4 different colourways of your portrait. Place them all in a composition together (see example #2). They could be stacked 2 photos x 2 photos, or 4 photos in a row.
Save and upload your file to your Digital Portfolio, and answer the What I've Learned questions.
Include an image of your layers palette

What tool/menu option did you select to add 2 (or more) colours to your portrait?
What tool(s) did you use to remove your background?
What do you like about your portrait?
Of the four portraits you created, which colour combination do you think is strongest? Why do you think that is?
