5-7; 8th grade by invitation only
Shakespeare’s Kids is a drama class during which we cast, practice and present a full length play to our audience. Typically we give 4-6 performances by the end of Project SEEK. Our play for the Summer of 2025 is a sequel to last year’s play: The Mysterious Mishap of Mrs. Muhlrooney. It will include all the crazy characters as last year and should be a fantastically fun play to perform.
The plan is to have a read-through of the script AND auditions on the first day of class. Students will be able to access the script as soon as classes have been confirmed.
When contemplating auditions, students should be aware of and practice the following:
Preparedness (how familiar the actor is with his/her desired part and whether or not the part is well-rehearsed)
Stage Presence (Shows confidence, uses appropriate facial expression and body language and gestures, can engage an audience)
Quality (how much enthusiasm the actor puts into his/her desired part and into the audition)
We HOPE you plan on joining Shakespeare’s Kids this year!
Each year we perform a different play than the last; therefore, students who were in Shakespeare’s Kids previously can take this class again and again!
Destiny Pierce: I was a student in the Shakespeare’s Kids class 16 years ago and have been involved with this class every year since. I enjoy watching the plays each year as well as watching the students make new friends, learn new theatre games, and experiencing the play improve from the first week of class until the final performances!
Karlajean Becvar: Mrs. "B" has worked in the Hinckley-Finlayson School District for 40 years. She just retired on June 6th, but looks forward to spending the next three weeks with Project SEEK (of which she has been an instructor for over 25 years). She enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband. Also, spending time with her furred and feathered kids, her extended family, and her human friends brings her great joy!
We will stay at the school and work on our play that we’ll perform during open house!

Good morning!
We are so excited to meet all of you! This year our class has 22 participants and we can't wait to get started. Check back here on SATURDAY, June 7th for the first "peak" of our new show. (Lovingly crafted with all of you in mind!)
Many of last year's characters will be back, and some new ones as well. Also, what is quite outstanding about this year's class is we have 6 boys! I think that is a record!!
As I said, check back here later this week. If you need to touch base with either Destiny or me, please feel free to do so.

6/8/25 Update
I apologize for not providing an update yesterday. I have been working on our play (as it is an in-progress project) and my creativity is not working as fast as I had hoped it would. However, I do have the cast list so at least you can see the character parts.
Calling on
Weedy
& Weeze:
Who’s Saving Whom
Cast of Characters
This play is about mistaken identities and Keystone Cop antics which should be a real crowd pleaser!
1) Wedelia “Weedy” White: Niece of Edith White and a very dedicated Girl Scout Miss “Weedy” White, a year older and smarter, she is more than capable of helping the girls solve this latest mystery.
2) Louise “Weeze” White: Weedy’s twin sister; easily scared but persuaded. Much more into fashion and
good looks than what her sister likes to do. An almost dedicated Girl Scout and very willing to let Weedy do all the work.
3) Bob/Roberta "Bobby/Bobbie" Bliss: Lawyer for philanthropists or is he/she? Shows up as a wealthy investor's employee, has ideas for "investment" or is he just "casing the joint?"
4) Alexandra Amorelle: One of the wealthy investors that Bliss is pursuing. Is she a friend or is she a foe?
5) Thumbelle-Lena Print: (Goes by Belle-Lena): Detective Finger Print’s niece who wants to follow in his
footsteps and finally gets her chance! Due to Finger having to be on another case, he commissions Bell-Lena to act in his stead, solving a mystery on her own! She can not wait to get started!
6) Professor Plum: A mild “Jekyll & Hyde-type”: He is very unpredictable and very undecided. His names are Edmond (who speaks with British accent and usually faces left) and Edward (his counterpart who usually faces right). He often has ongoing arguments/dialogues with himself. Was a dear friend of Mr. White and has since become a constant companion to Mrs. White and the girls, Weedy and Weeze. Always up for a bit of fun and willing to take a big bite out of crime!
7) Mrs. Muhlrooney: Lived in a large house in the middle of town once known as Millionaire’s Row until it was blown up! She comes from a long line of eccentric millionaires and is known for her tactlessness and impatience with anyone who bothers her. But when she was kidnapped and “swapped” out for an imposter, she’s learned to mend her ways to become a team player, or has she?
8) Katherine Byrne: Mrs. Muhlrooney’s maid; speaks with an Irish accent. Has lovingly helped Mrs. Muhlrooney get herself re-established since her house blew up in the last mystery.
9) Fannie Fairweather: News and weather reporter for Channel 6 News in Duluth. Has been in the Swiss Alps on assignment since Mrs. Muhlrooney was rescued.
10) Finnegan Fairweather: Fannie’s cousin, a top freelance writer who steps in for Fannie after she breaks her leg on assignment in the Swiss Alps. He may be a top winning journalist, but has no clue as to what goes into solving mysteries!
11) Herbie Habitrap: Fannie Fairweather’s current intern who Fin inherits once Fannie is out of commission. Very annoying and says all kinds of things, even spreading fake news! Fannie’s, and now Fin’s job is to rehab him so he can hopefully find a job in journalism.
12) Gigi Venture: Agent for T.H.A.P. (Treasure Hunters and Artifact Purveyors of the Great Lakes). When she's called in by the Girl Scouts, her job this time might include hunting and purveying the undiscovered territory of pre-teens!
13) Dr. Vikoria Vogel: Has a doctorate in ornithology–bird science--and is currently a professor at Wyndham University. She is a dedicated (almost too dedicated) U.S. Girl Scout leader. She runs her troop like an admiral runs a ship.
14) Julianne Thisby: Girl Scout extraordinaire; is very capable at sniffing out trouble; extremely intelligent but lacks some social skills.
15) Jillian Thisby: Julianne’s little sister. For as good as Julianne is at sniffing out crime and trying to avoid trouble, Jillian’s equally bad at getting herself into all kinds of trouble. Her curiosity gets the best of her. However, she is determined and willing to try things that others are not.
16) Chessandra Sneetch: Girl Scout; thinks she’s older than she really is; easily frightened; sweet and likable.
17) Susan Stantanopolus (Pronounced Stan-ta-nop-a-lus): Girl Scout; loves solving problems but doesn’t always have the best solutions; resents Julianne’s intelligence, quick wit, and her “Little Miss Goody-Two-Shoes” attitude; sometimes holds in her feelings rather than speaks her mind. Can be easily frightened as well.
18) Bobcat Scout Kate Dubane: Danny’s big sister who does not share his opinion of himself. Has kept him in her sites so that he doesn’t permanently step on others’ toes, but it is a full time job. She knows her brother could be a definite suspect in this caper, but is unwilling to point the Girl Scouts’ antennae towards him. Why?
19) Webelo Scout Danny Dubane: Danny is from Webelo Troop 1687 and believes he is the best webelo to ever live. He also doesn’t hesitate to prove it. He has a disdain for the Girl Scouts because he believes they can’t do just to any investigation without the help of the Webelos and Bobcats.
20) Webelo Scout Arlo Jackson: Danny’s co-conspirator and Danny’s best “scout” friend because Arlo is the only one who dares to put up with Danny’s spreading of lies.
21) Officer Kane: Local Police Chief who focuses not only on upholding law and order, but also getting the best officers for his units.
22) Officer Novak: Local Police Deputy who wants to please the boss: Officer Kane, but always seems to miss the mark.

I hear that many of you are finding it hard to read the audition script pdf that Destiny shared with you. Therefore, I am posting the link right here and hopefully you will be able to read this one.

Goodness! Where has the time gone?? We have been working very hard on our roles, memorization and patiently awaiting each part of the script that Mrs.B is churning out as Shakespeare's Kids practice. (They are an incredible group and DO NOT complain!!
😄
Just a reminder about tomorrow: Weds. June 18th. It is our extended day and therefore, class time will go until 2:30 pm. Destiny and I are providing Subway lunch for the group so the kids just need to bring their appetites! ALSO, we will be doing spray painting tomorrow. Therefore, students should wear clothes that can be used for such an activity. In the past, we have had no issues of students getting any paint on their clothes, but we need to take precautions nonetheless, since every year, there is a chance. Thank you for understanding.
I have also attached the next scene (Act Two, Scene Three) which you DO NOT need to print as I will have copies tomorrow. However, some of the kids were anxious to get this before class ended and I wasn't quite done.

Good morning! Things have been progressing and we are getting super excited (and a little nervous) about next week. However GOOD NERVES are always good, healthy, and welcome!
We will post all the performance times here as soon as they are finalized, which should be today or this weekend for sure. All performances are open to family and friends if necessary. In the past, we have had family members work evenings and not be able to attend Parents' Night; therefore, we have always welcomed family members to attend any of the performances, whatever works best for them!
As always, if you need anything please reach out: 320-279-3699 (Kj Becvar cell #)

Good morning! Just a reminder today is Parents' Night! We are so excited for you to see our performance. There will be two this evening: 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The play lasts about an hour and you are welcome to stay for both performances if you so choose. Also, if you could have your sons or daugters (or both) be here by 4:30 OR 4:45 at the latest, that would be great! Thank you!
