Firstly, they should create a DnDBeyond.com account. This is done by logging into dndbeyond with a gmail account. HOWEVER, you will not be able to create an account if the gmail account is of a minor (under 13). So if the student is under 13 the parent will have to create the account for them. If this is an issue, I will be able to find a work-around for that. The benefit of creating one is that they can update and read up on their character from home. They also then get to keep the character forever on the account. Once we have them created I will be printing off character sheets and we won't need it in day to day activities.
During our typical day we will socialize a bit while we get everyone together, then start our adventuring session. We'll take a break for snacks around 10:30 then go back to adventuring until it is time to leave.
We also have a couple of independent projects the students will work on throughout the course:
Student Choice Project: character sheet, artwork, stories
Map Making: play map or region map
Currently we are planning to spend a day on character development and picking miniatures. The students will also be able to pick a set of dice from what I have, and both of these items are theirs to keep. I'll be ordering the miniatures on day one so that we can get them and use them a bit in actual play.
I hope that everyone is staying safe, and I thank you for choosing to participate this year as we do what we can to enrich your lives. I'm sure we will all have the best of times!
To recap, they only need to bring a snack if they wish (NO NUTS), and a login for dndbeyond.com, if they created one.
I'm planning to give people calls on Monday to answer any questions and make sure people are ready. If you are only available at certain times feel free to reply with a time you'd prefer a call on Monday the 13th.
Everything seems to be working much better now. I was also able to get the orders in for miniatures, so those should arrive "soon". This time going into the jungle we decided bug spray and a travel guide might be good ideas. Ask them what they remember most!
Extended day is the 23rd and we will be staying in the building and continuing our adventure. Students should bring a sack lunch this day (NO NUTS). The normal snack time will also be available, but we will take a break at noon for their sack lunches from home.
I'll be trying to get some good pictures for Friday. :D
Here is some pictures of our Friday. We worked on our character designs a bit between adventure days.
Welp, we fought our first dragon! Apparently all you need is a good chicken distraction to make the fight easier. We also had some people ride down a mine in an old cart and railway system. Luckily some quick thinking kept them from flattening on the wall at the end of the tunnel.
For our extended day we will be remaining in the classroom. Students will need to bring a bag lunch (also no Nuts). We will take two breaks: our normal break at 10 for snacks, and a separate break at noon for eating our bag lunches.
If you have any questions for me, feel free to reply to my previous e-mail.
Last week! The photo for today has everyone working to solve a riddle and puzzle. Everyone was also very excited to receive their miniatures today.
Just as a reminder, open house will be Wed from 5-7pm. I look forward to meeting anyone who can make it!
