Wednesday, June 29th, 2022 **OPEN HOUSE** ART SHOW
Today students experienced other Project SEEK students as their audience for their "Art Show". Project SEEK students placed their votes into the vote box to vote for their favorite "Best of Show" artwork. Tomorrow we will be counting the votes together in class to reveal who got the "Best of Show" recognition. Parents and family are also welcomed to our Art show tonight to come see all the hard work students put in! It is really a site to see!
Tuesday, June 28th, 2022
Today students spent much of their day making their art presentable for tomorrow's "Art Show". We cropped, glued, taped, matted, labeled, numbered, and hung all the work up on the walls! We also tidied up the room and organized it to make it look as though no art mess ever existed! Students are very excited to show their work tomorrow to all who come to see. The Art Show will be open as of 9AM-12PM for Project SEEK students to come cast their votes, and it will also be open to parents during all of Open House.
Monday, June 27th, 2022
Today students finished their Niuean tropical Hiapo Tapa projects. We also began matting and labeling our art in preparation for the art show this Wednesday. The Art Show will be available for Project SEEK students during the day and will also be available to parents during our Open House event.
Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 **EXTENDED DAY EXPERIENCE**
Today students worked very hard to learn the ambiguous works of abstract art. We watched many techniques from artists, thereafter we had a moment to practice such techniques, then continued outdoors to create our gargantuan collaborative abstract painting that measures 3'x27'! Being dressed and prepared students were more than ready to get messy and make some fun expressive abstract art. Have a look and see, enjoy our joy and memory this extended day of Project SEEK 2022!
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022
Today students began their Niuean tropical art that highlights the traditions of their Hiapo Tapa Cloths. Students also learned about the artist, John Pule. He was an artist that at a young age left his native island, Niue to go to Auckland, New Zealand only to return in his adulthood to rediscover his roots and culture through the creation of his art. We also enjoyed finding this miniscule island out in the middle of the ocean on Google Earth. We also watched a short video about Niuean culture.
Tuesday, June 21st, 2022
Today students continued to add more detail to their mandalas with tempera paints. We also watched a culture video that depicted rural life in Tibet.
**Reminder: Bring an oversized T-Shirt that you don't mind getting dirty with paint for this Thursday, our extended day! Also, bring a full packed cold lunch, and also an extra snack, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses are also very helpful. It appears to be sunny with a high of 90 degrees. It will be hot so we will not be outside all day for this experience. **
Monday, June 20th, 2022
Today students completed their Asian brush projects. We then began our next project that features Buddhist Monks of Tibet's, Mandalas. Students learned much about the ways Buddhist Monks used intricate metal tools and colored sands to build elaborate Mandalas, and only thereafter to be swept away and be returned back to nature. We learned how to create Mandalas with the use of radial symmetry, and designed our own mandala designs.
Friday, June 17th, 2022
Today Art students continued practicing their Asian Brush techniques, however we learned how to write our names in Chinese traditional characters, and also began practicing Chinese landscapes. Students also enjoyed learning about Chinese culture today, we learned a lot about their food, their traditional dances, some included Chinese dragons, and also watched a short acrobat show. Students listened to Chinese Lofi an upbeat instrumental spin on traditional Chinese music during creation.
Thursday, June 16th, 2022
Today Art students finished up their Cave Art projects by using charcoal, chalk, oil pastel, and paint. After completing this project we decided to travel to China next to learn how the Asian brush techniques work, and how the Asian brush is different compared to other brushes commonly used. Tomorrow we begin practicing landscapes with Asian Brush.

Today Art students finished their Indian Rangoli projects and continued the process of their Cave Art project. Art students painted their wrinkled canvases with tempera paint and a mixture of silt, clay, and sand, to emulate the textural qualities of a real cave wall. We ended the day by looking at several cave drawings and paintings done in prehistoric times.

Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 *FIRST DAY*
Today Art students were welcomed into Global Folk Art Painting. We painted a really nice name tag while conversating and getting to know one another while listening to music. We also covered rules, expectations, and routines today to familiarize students with the course and our building. Today we also began some preparations for a Cave Art project, and also a Mandala project. While these projects set out to dry, we began our Indian Rangoli Folk Art lesson and ended the day with some great Rangoli compositions. Here are a few pictures of students that wanted their picture taken to show their Rangoli design(s).
Global Folk Art Painting
Students and Parent(s)/ Guardian(s),
Welcome to Global Folk Art Painting! I am excited to meet and work with you in creating some amazing works of Art. I teach Art at Hinckley Elementary School and this is my first year instructing at Project SEEK.
Our goal is to open our minds and be willing to explore the world and its many different forms of Folk Art. You will find yourself emerging into several different cultures from around the world. Along the way we will explore the unique cultures of these countries through listening to their music, and viewing educational videos about these places to enrich your experience as a visiting artist. Buckle up and get on our metaphorical airplane!
Our extended day experience June 23rd will consist of painting outside within the school grounds. Keep an eye on the weather on extended day and dress appropriately. If it is stormy/rainy we will likely be taking our experience indoors and into the classroom. I ask that you prepare yourself with a cold lunch for this day, and an extra snack. Please have a water bottle ready incase it is hot out. You may also want to consider sunblock, cap/sunhat, sunglasses, and bug spray.
Projects will vary in difficulty, techniques, and styles, so there will be something that everyone can enjoy. We will be supplying what students need for this course, however it is optional to bring your own art materials if you prefer. If you have questions about bringing any supplies please don’t hesitate to email me. I look forward to a very successful outcome for our brilliant artists! Students are expected to work independently and be self-motivated.
