We are excited to see everyone at open house tonight!
Today we continued with our dioramas! First, we started our day by creating our final posters to show all the research we've done about each of our animals.
We will showcase our posters, dioramas, and clay animals (plus all the cool art and science we've done at SEEK) on Wednesday during open house!
Open house will be from 5:00-7:00 - we hope everyone can make it! We encourage you to collect all the art and science projects your child has done during this time. Otherwise, they will bring them on the bus with them on Thursday after our final day of SEEK.
Today we were creating our clay animals to add to our dioramas! We started the day by dyeing the clay with paint to make our animals as realistic as possible. It was a pretty messy day, but so fun to work with the clay.
This morning we started researching for our final project on the chrome books. Each student is picking one animal to research and create a diorama on. We researched their habitat, diet, life span, classification.... In the afternoon we started painting the background for our diorama.
Today we learned about the Arctic and Antarctica. First, we did a science experiment to learn how animals with blubber keep warm in FREEZING climates! Then, we made a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the Arctic with Antarctica. Finally, we made some Arctic water resistant art using watercolors and oil pastels.
Today we ventured from North Branch Middle School to Wild River State Park. It was SO much fun! Naturalist, Sean, took us on an almost 2 hour hike through the state forest. Along the way we did fun activities and learned a lot about the plants and animals that call Wild River home!
Cambridge Forestry joined us at the end to teach us all about how to prevent wild fires. They also taught us a lot about what it means to be a wildlife firefighter. We even got to meet Smokey the Bear!
Ask your child about what they got to learn and see today!
Today we learned about food chains and how they work in all the ecosystems we have learned about. We learned about consumers, producers, and decomposers. Lastly we created our own food chains.
We traveled to the rainforest today! We learned about the layers of the rainforest and which animals live in each layer. Each student picked one rainforest animal to watercolor. Then we created a giant mural of a rainforest with the four layers labeled. At the end we added our watercolor rainforest animals to the mural.
Our day started with traveling to shallow, warmer ocean waters to the coral reef. We learned about what creates a coral reef and what they need to thrive! We also learned about all the different animals that live in a coral reef.
After snack, we headed outside for an interactive game of Sharks and Minnows - fitting for the ocean!
Finally, we created 3D sculptures of a coral reef using pool noodles and skewers for the reef. We added different fish and sea creatures, too!
Ask your child about what they learned today!
Today was an exciting day as we put on our snorkels and scuba gear, and headed to the ocean! First, we learned about the different ocean zones and which animals live in each zone. Then, we put on our scientist hats and created our very own ocean zone experiment. After a short snack break, we painted ocean zones and animals in a fun art project!
Please take a look at the photos below and ask your child about what they learned today!
On the first day we built community by learning each other's names through a fun interactive game. We also established classroom rules and decorated our classroom.
