Hello Awesome Alaska! families! Most of the information that you need has been included on this page already or is in your child's material bag. The folder in the bag has contact information, SeeSaw login information, our daily schedule, student expectations, and a packet of material that we will use daily. Students should have their whole bag of supplies available to use every day. Depending on your child's final project choice, he/she may need a few extra items like a shoebox, stronger glue, tape, markers. scissor, or other craft type materials. I did include glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper, watercolor paints and paper, and a large piece of tagboard for the final project presentation. My plan is to contact parents daily via email to make sure you are aware of daily assignments that need to be completed. I did email all parents on Friday, June 11th with some information for you. I will plan to do a "practice" Google Meet on Monday afternoon so please be on the lookout for that invitation. If you have not already confirmed with me the email that you want me to use for our Google Meets, I may send to both parent and child emails that I have been provided. I would prefer to have just one email for each student for Google Meets. Please reply to my email today (Sunday) if you can. SeeSaw information with an individual code for your child is included in your child's folder. Please make sure that you can access SeeSaw. Our daily videos and other assignments will be on SeeSaw and I will expect daily student responses on SeeSaw too! Please let me know if you ever have any questions during our Awesome Alaska! adventure. You may contact me via email or text my cell phone. Thank you so much! I look forward to meeting all of the Awesome Alaska! students and families! Ms. Schmidt
WELCOME to Awesome Alaska!
I am looking forward to exploring this beautiful state with all of you. My name is Kimberly Schmidt and I teach second grade at Hinckley Elementary School. This is the sixth summer that I have offered a class and taught with Project SEEK.
We will be learning about Alaska through fiction and nonfiction articles and stories, videos, research projects, art activities, virtual field trips, and more. Students will decide on one animal to research and then share with the rest of the class via Google Meet or a similar platform. We will learn about animals, ecosystems, mountain ranges, ocean life, Northern Lights, culture, ecology, and much more. I look forward to seeing the students’ completed final projects.
Students will need to have a dependable device and internet to participate and complete assignments each morning. Parents may need to supply a few items like a scissor, tape, shoebox, or other craft type items for the student’s final project. We will be supplying most materials for the special assignments that we are doing. Students will be expected to work independently and be self-motivated.
Parents may have to supervise some of the activities. It will be exciting to see all of the student work.
If you have any questions you can contact me at kschmidt@isd2165.org or call 651-792-6206.
Thank you so much and see you this summer!
Ms. Schmidt
