Duck Stamp

This project is all about drawing a duck as realistically as possible. This is a drawing of a merganser duck.

I used a few materials; I used oil pastels, an image of the duck itself as well as a ruler to make sure I had correct proportioning and the correct sized drawing.

I chose to create this drawing of a merganser because I thought it would be very interesting to draw this duck due to the interesting colors it has and how it was sitting. I had to edit it a little, but it’s sitting on a nest in the grass that grows next to the water.

This piece shows a lot of shading and color blending. I had to use lots of color blending to match a lot of the colors and the background to what the original image is.

I started with a few other duck, but decided that those ducks were not as interesting as this one and so I started drawing this one and when I finished the duck I made a background around it except I didn’t like the background so I cut the duck out and made another background on a new piece of paper then glued the duck to it.

This doesn’t have a ton of meaning per say although, it does have a back story. I have a camp and up at that camp there is a little pond. The only ducks we find on the pond are mergansers, when I first saw one I thought they were cool, so for this drawing I decided to make a merganser.

This drawing reminds me of the ducks up at my camp.

I think I could make the background more realistic and make the duck more realistic as well.
