The central idea of my concentration is centered around lobsters and the lobstering industry. Being from Maine I have always had a bit of a fascination with the industry. Whenever I go down to the harbor I am always drawn to the lobster boats. I think they are the most intriguing boats in the harbor because each one carries so much more of a story than most of the other boats. They make a living for the people that crew them. They are named after spouses mothers or something just plain funny. The colors of the buoy is like a coat of arms for each fisherman that hauls them up every morning. As for the lobster I see it as a symbol of where I'm from, I think it is important to incorporate lobsters into my art because they are such a large part of Maine's economy and when the lobster industry does well Maine does well. With this concentration I aim to explore the history behind the lobster boats, the men who man them, the industry behind it and the bugs that fuel this whole operation.
