NEWS: Parent Evening Week 9th March
Welcome to Robin's Nest
I would like to warmly welcome you to our EYFS class- Robin's Nest. Here children from age 2 come to learn, grow and explore in our safe, secure setting. We have very experienced staff as well as a class teacher to ensure that children thrive through carefully planned activities and provision. Play is essential for children’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems, and relate to others. Children learn by leading their own play, and by taking part in play which is guided by adults. In Robin's Nest we take our health very seriously, as well as play we also have tooth brushing time as a part of our daily routine.
PE takes place for reception each Wednesday and Friday. The reception children will have reading books and will also be learning new sounds and words each day as part of their Phonic sessions. We encourage children to read each night at home and practise their sounds to support their learning in school. Your child will have a reading diary in which you will be able to write a comment each night. Details of homework tasks can be found in your child’s homework book and on our weekly class newsletter.
Don’t forget to take a look at our Dojo app to see the type of work and activities taking place in class. We also keep parents up to date with class news and life through our weekly newsletter which is available on our class Dojo page. Here you can also find important dates for workshops, class visits and other useful information.
Thank you for your interest, we hope to see you soon.

Enrichment
We love to help to enhance our learning with special events, themed days and trips out. So far this year Reception have been to the Flower Farm, a trip to the shops, Applecast Farm and Mere Sands Nature Reserve. We have also enjoyed in special days such as World Book Day, European Language Day and Online Safety Day. We also like our parents to feel involved in their child's life at school and hold special collaborative workshops to support communication, phonics, busy fingers, as well as Christian events such as Easter and Christmas.
At Lathom Park Primary School, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, delivered in Robins Class is designed to nurture competent, curious and creative learners. We aim to develop secure and confident children who enjoy learning, are skilful communicators, and can connect effectively with others through play, language and symbolic expression. Our intent is to instil a lifelong love of learning, preparing children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of the community and equipping them for life in modern-day Britain.
The EYFS curriculum is planned in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework and is tailored to the interests, prior learning and individual needs of each child. Planning is flexible and collaborative, allowing staff to provide a wide and varied range of experiences both indoors and outdoors. Children’s development is carefully recorded through observation and assessment in multiple learning environments, giving staff a comprehensive understanding of each child’s strengths and needs. On entry to Reception, baseline assessments, combined with information from nursery settings and parents, guide planning to ensure every child receives a creative, challenging and supportive curriculum.
As a result, pupils in EYFS at Lathom Park Primary School develop a strong foundation across all areas of learning and personal development. They grow in confidence, curiosity and independence, showing creativity and effective communication skills. Children enjoy learning, demonstrate positive social and emotional development, and make measurable progress from their starting points. Through our EYFS provision, pupils leave this stage ready for the next phase of education, equipped with the skills, attitudes and resilience to thrive throughout primary school.
The Areas of Learning and Development of the EYFS Framework
There are seven areas of learning and development that shape our educational Programme in our school setting. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. These areas are crucial for creating curiosity and an enthusiasm for learning, and for building the capacity to learn, build relationships and thrive.
The Prime areas are:
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Children are also supported in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.
The Specific areas are:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
How We Evidence our Learning in Robins Nest
Having a mixed age room in EYFS works by doing a blend of approaches. Reception aged children have a topic/English learning journey and a Maths learning journey that their work is recorded in. They also have home learning books that are taken home most weeks and reading records that are completed. Our Pre-school children and 2 year old Little Robins have a general learning journey to record WOW moments of learning.
We also have a floorbook which is a working document produced in collaboration with the children. In it you will find links to the whole curriculum, children's voice exerts, children's drawings, mark making and topic work. We also have examples of our many parent work shops that take place every half term and our trips.
For some of our younger learning it is important ot record how they learn ' In The Moment'. We have a working document that allows staff to track children's interests and to extend learning and questionning that is targeted to the child's interests and skill level.
Finally, we have our 'Lady News' book. Lady is our class mascot who chooses who she goes home with every week. The children love to stand up and share their adventures with Lady with their friends.
We like to share our learning with parent's on our class Dojo as by learning and working together we ensure that our children feel happy, safe and ready to progress ready to key stage 1.
