The report recognises that safeguarding is met and that attendance and behaviour, inclusion, and personal development and wellbeing meet the expected standard. It also notes the school’s caring Christian ethos, strong relationships and effective support for pupils with SEND.

Our Ofsted Inspection – A Positive Step Forward

We are pleased to share that our recent Ofsted inspection recognised the many strengths of Lathom Park CE Primary School.

Safeguarding was judged to be met, confirming that pupils are safe, well cared for and supported by a strong culture where concerns are identified and acted upon promptly.

The inspection found that the school is meeting the expected standard in:

• Attendance and behaviour

• Inclusion

• Personal development and wellbeing

Under Ofsted’s renewed framework, the expected standard is a high standard and is broadly comparable to what parents may previously have understood as a “good” judgement. We are especially proud that the inspection recognised the areas that matter most to our school community: our calm and caring behaviour culture, our strong inclusion for children with SEND and additional needs, and the wide range of opportunities that support children’s confidence, wellbeing and personal development.

Inspectors recognised that pupils are safe, happy and well known by staff. They highlighted the school’s welcoming Christian ethos, positive relationships, effective support for children with additional needs, strong pastoral care, outdoor learning, wider opportunities, clubs, leadership roles and the way pupils are encouraged to develop their individual talents.

The report identifies some areas as “needs attention.” This is not a judgement that the school is failing. It is similar to an MOT advisory: it identifies areas for leaders to focus on and improve over the next inspection cycle, usually across a two-year period. The priorities identified are ones we already know well and have been actively addressing.

These include continuing to strengthen consistency in phonics, early writing, mathematics, assessment and outcomes at the end of Key Stage 2. Inspectors acknowledged that our curriculum is ambitious and logically sequenced, and that recent improvements in early years, reading and writing are already bringing greater clarity and structure.

Early Years was identified as an area for further development because leadership is relatively new, with the teacher in post for less than a year. Inspectors were clear that children are happy, settled, safe and well supported, including children with SEND. The next step is to ensure that the well-designed curriculum is delivered with increasing consistency as the new leadership arrangements continue to embed.

The report also identified phonics as an area to refine. We are confident in the progress and results achieved by many of our children, and we have chosen a phonics approach that is well suited to our pupils. However, we will continue to sharpen consistency and precision in its delivery so that every child benefits fully.

We are very grateful to our families for their continued trust and support. We were particularly proud that 96% of parents who completed the inspection questionnaire said that they would recommend Lathom Park CE Primary School to another parent.

This report gives us a clear and constructive pathway for the next stage of our improvement journey, while recognising the warmth, care, inclusion and strong sense of community that make Lathom Park such a special place for children to learn and grow.
