NEWS: Parent Evening Week 9th March
At Lathom Park Primary School, PSHE enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society, preparing them for life in modern Britain. Our curriculum is designed to support pupils’ personal, social and emotional development, helping them understand themselves, their relationships and the world around them. We aim to nurture self-confidence, resilience and awareness, encouraging children to play a positive role within school and the wider community. PSHE also develops understanding of rights and responsibilities, promotes respect for diversity and prepares pupils to engage with society in a thoughtful and responsible way.
Our PSHE curriculum is carefully planned to link with our Safeguarding, SMSC and British Values policies, embedding the principles of equality, democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance. Teaching is progressive from EYFS to Year 6 and covers a wide range of themes including healthy relationships, family diversity, personal safety, mental and physical wellbeing, online safety, growth mindset, and citizenship. Children learn through discussion, reflection, role-play and practical activities, with opportunities to explore real-life issues and develop social skills. Lessons are reinforced through whole-school initiatives, assemblies and community engagement, ensuring pupils see the relevance of PSHE to their everyday lives.
As a result, pupils at Lathom Park Primary School develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to make positive choices about their health, relationships and wellbeing. They show respect, empathy and responsibility towards others, understand the importance of personal boundaries, and demonstrate resilience when facing challenges. Children develop self-awareness, self-care skills, and an understanding of mental and physical health, including the link between the two. Pupils leave primary school equipped to navigate modern life safely and confidently, with the values, knowledge and social skills to contribute positively to society and their own personal development.
