At Lathom Park Primary School, our vision for Physical Education is to ensure inclusion for all children, regardless of ability, and to provide opportunities for participation in a wide range of sports. We aim to develop pupils’ physical competence, confidence and enthusiasm for being active. Alongside skill development, we encourage children to understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including knowledge of body functions, nutrition and fitness.
Our PE curriculum is carefully structured to teach fundamental movement skills and progressively build sporting abilities from EYFS to Year 6. Pupils engage in a variety of activities, from individual challenges to team sports, designed to develop coordination, balance, agility and stamina. Lessons are enhanced through partnerships with external sports coaches and organisations, allowing teachers to continually develop their expertise and ensuring the delivery of high-quality PE in line with the National Curriculum. Opportunities for competitive and non-competitive events, both in school and the wider community, support participation and enjoyment for all.
As a result, pupils at Lathom Park Primary School demonstrate increased confidence, physical competence and a positive attitude towards lifelong physical activity. They develop teamwork, resilience and the ability to set and achieve personal goals. Children understand the importance of fitness, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, applying these principles beyond the classroom. Through PE, pupils leave primary school with the skills, knowledge and motivation to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives
