NEWS: Parent Evening Week 9th March
At Lathom Park Primary School, we aim to inspire all pupils with a fascination for the world and the diverse people who inhabit it. We seek to ignite a curiosity about places, environments and global issues that will remain with our children for life. Our curriculum encourages pupils to develop a strong sense of belonging and responsibility towards the world around them, fostering interest in local, national and international issues such as environmental change, sustainability and community development. We aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and passion needed to understand and respond to the geographical and global challenges of the future.
Our geography curriculum is carefully sequenced to build locational knowledge, place knowledge and understanding of human and physical processes progressively from EYFS to Year 6. Pupils develop key geographical skills including mapping, fieldwork, enquiry and investigation, enabling them to think critically and independently. Learning is enriched through practical experiences, local studies and opportunities to explore real-world issues. Each year, a themed geography week further enhances the curriculum, focusing on developing a key skill while deepening locational or place knowledge in an engaging and memorable way.
As a result, pupils at Lathom Park Primary School develop a secure understanding of the world and their place within it. They are able to use maps confidently, conduct fieldwork with independence and discuss geographical issues with increasing awareness and sensitivity. Children demonstrate curiosity about current events and show an understanding of how their actions can impact the environment and wider community. Through geography, pupils leave primary school informed, thoughtful and prepared to contribute positively to a rapidly changing world.
