Enrichment
At Lathom Park CE Primary School, we believe every child deserves a rich and memorable education that goes beyond the classroom. Enrichment at our school is all about giving children exciting, hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity, build confidence, and help them discover their passions.
From the very start of their school journey, our children take part in a wide range of activities designed to broaden their horizons and make learning come to life.
As a proud Church of England CE VC school, Lathom Park CE Primary is deeply rooted in Christian values, community, and history. One of the most cherished aspects of our school life is our strong and long-standing link with Lathom Chapel, which plays a central role in nurturing our children’s spiritual growth and sense of belonging.
We regularly walk to the chapel for key services and celebrations, including Harvest, Christmas, Easter, and our Leavers' Service, giving children the opportunity to come together in worship, reflection and celebration. These moments are a treasured part of our school calendar, offering children a peaceful, reverent space to connect with faith and with one another.
In Year 6, our children also visit Liverpool Cathedral to mark their transition to high school. This is a truly special experience, allowing them to reflect on their journey at Lathom Park and join with the other Church School leavers in the Liverpool Diocese look forward with hope and confidence to the next chapter.
Our connection with Lathom Chapel is not only spiritual but also historical. The chapel shares deep historic roots with Lathom Hall, once home to the Earls of Derby. We use these local links to teach children about our area’s rich heritage—helping them develop pride in their community and a deeper understanding of the place they call home. Learning about the local significance of Lathom Chapel and Hall brings history to life and helps our pupils see themselves as part of a continuing story.
Our Christian ethos is woven into daily life at Lathom Park. Through regular collective worship, values-based education, and strong links with our local church, we aim to support every child to flourish academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
We are incredibly lucky to have beautiful outdoor spaces, and we make full use of them through Forest School-inspired activities. Children explore the natural world, develop physical skills, and learn to take risks safely as they build dens, create nature art, and learn how to care for the environment around them.
Our school is also home to some very special members of the team—our therapy rabbits and dogs! These gentle animals provide a calming presence and offer emotional support to children who need it. Whether it’s a quiet cuddle or a confidence boost, our furry friends play a big part in our nurture and wellbeing provision. Children are taught how to care for the animals responsibly, helping them to develop empathy and a sense of calm.
Our streamside sensory and faith garden is a peaceful, reflective space where children can enjoy quiet moments, explore their senses, and connect with nature. It’s a special part of our school where wellbeing, spiritual development, and mindfulness are nurtured.
We believe learning happens everywhere—not just within school walls. Our enrichment offer includes carefully planned trips linked to topics and interests, from local walks and farm visits to exploring museums, churches, libraries, and beyond. These real-world experiences help children to connect what they learn in school with the wider world.
We are proud of our warm, nurturing ethos. Children are supported to build confidence, resilience and emotional understanding through small group work, 1:1 support where needed, and our school-wide focus on wellbeing. We participate in termly wellness walks in the local area. Set in beautiful rural surroundings, our school is perfectly placed to help children connect with nature, slow down, and enjoy peaceful moments outside. Whether it’s a quiet stroll to listen to birdsong, watching the seasons change around the stream, or pausing to notice the colours in our sensory and faith garden, our Wellness Walks give children the time and space to breathe, reflect, and reset.
These walks are often used to: support children with emotional regulation or anxiety, encourage mindfulness and appreciation of the world around them, provide a calming break during a busy day, offer quiet 1:1 time with a trusted adult or friend, promote physical movement and mental clarity.
Children love the chance to step outside, stretch their legs, and notice the simple wonders of the world around them. It’s a gentle and grounding part of life at Lathom Park and one that reminds us all to take time for wellbeing. Every child is known, valued and cared for as an individual.
From World Book Day to charity events, science investigations to dress-up days, our school calendar is filled with exciting events that bring the whole school together. These experiences create memories, foster community, and help children develop a strong sense of belonging.
