NEWS: Parent Evening Week 9th March
At Lathom Park Primary School, our vision for Art is to develop every child’s artistic skills through the use of a wide range of tools, techniques and media. We aim to nurture confident and creative learners who can study, practise and evaluate both their own artwork and the work of other artists. Children are encouraged to experiment, reflect and refine their ideas, developing resilience and independence alongside technical skill. Success in art is achieved through growing confidence, creativity and the ability to assess and improve their developing work.
Our stimulating and progressive art curriculum is carefully sequenced to build skills from EYFS to Year 6 and is shaped by both National Curriculum expectations and pupil interests. Children take part in discrete art lessons where specific techniques are taught and revisited, and sketchbooks are used to practise, develop ideas and reflect on progress. Cross-curricular themed days allow pupils to embed and apply their skills across different subjects. The school environment provides inspiring indoor and outdoor spaces for creativity to flourish, and each term our whole-school art galleries celebrate pupils’ achievements while welcoming families into school.
As a result, pupils develop strong artistic knowledge and skills alongside positive attitudes towards creativity. They are able to talk confidently about their learning, evaluate their work thoughtfully and demonstrate increasing technical control. Children show pride in their artwork and resilience when refining their ideas. Through art, pupils at Lathom Park Primary School grow in confidence, creativity and self-expression, developing skills that extend beyond the classroom.
