NEWS: Parent Evening Week 9th March
At Lathom Park Primary School, our Design and Technology curriculum aims to develop the creative and technical expertise of all children. We intend for pupils to gain the knowledge and skills needed to research, design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a range of users and purposes. Through purposeful and practical learning experiences, children are encouraged to think critically, solve problems and evaluate their ideas. We also aim to equip pupils with the confidence to apply their skills beyond the classroom, enabling them to participate fully in an ever-evolving technological world.
Our Design and Technology curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills progressively from EYFS to Year 6. Pupils engage in the full design process: researching, generating ideas, planning, creating and evaluating. They work with a range of materials, tools and techniques, developing practical skills and learning to use equipment safely and accurately. Cooking and nutrition form an important part of the curriculum, where children learn about healthy eating and apply their understanding by preparing and cooking food independently and safely. Real-life contexts and cross-curricular links ensure learning is meaningful and engaging.
As a result, pupils at Lathom Park Primary School develop creativity, resilience and practical competence. They are able to design and produce purposeful products with increasing independence and technical accuracy. Children demonstrate a secure understanding of nutrition and food preparation, applying their knowledge safely and confidently. Through Design and Technology, pupils leave primary school equipped with valuable life skills, problem-solving abilities and the confidence to innovate in a rapidly changing world.
