Mariador is the second province to have joined the Empire following the unification of the Capitoline. Conquered during the time of the Hadrian Potentate, its many city-states pioneered the fighting forces that would serve as the foundation for the Imperial legions. The rocky highlands and jagged coastline that define the province motivated the self-sufficient city-state above all other forms of social organization. Imperial and provincial identity are equally important amongst those from Mariador - many have as much pride in their home city as they do the Empire. Also important to the province is its mining industry. While not as prodigious as the mines in Beausanne, Mariadoric mines are crucial sources of silver used to mint Imperial currency.
