Amartis is an only child born late in the 995th year of the 5th age to an upper middle-class family of Terris. He grew up in a town just outside the city of Aberon spending much time travelling between his town and the city – roughly a day’s journey apart. Like many youths in the region, young Amartis fell in love with the tales of Faries, often wandering the woods in search of the magical races and civilizations to no avail, much to the disdain of his father.
His father was Vincente Claudius - a man driven by success - spending much of the family’s wealth to have him rigorously educated in language, math, music, diplomacy, and history that he would bring the Claudius name into the Empire's political elite.
Despite the wishes of his father, he became enamored with the town guards and eventually the legion soldiers as he grew older, secretly learning martial combat in his free time. Over the years he grew distant from Vincente due to their conflicting ideologies but maintained a strong relationship with his mother, as she was sympathetic to his desires to join the legion and act as a defender of the people of the empire.
In the year 1015 of the 5th age, Amartis came of age and joined the Hadrian legion which led to his father immediately disowning him. For five years he served the legion fighting bandits, thieves, assassins, and even helped quell civil unrest on a couple of occasions. For a while the young man found purpose in his service, but over time he found himself haunted by the lives he took, feeling a call in his heart for something more. The guilt of killing his fellow humans was not eased by the fact that they were criminals either as he saw all people as redeemable.
Three years into his service, the call on his heart was answered as his battalion set upon a pack of wild goblins who were slaughtering caravans in northwestern Terris. During that skirmish, Amartis deflected a goblin blow aimed at Gaius Helios - Lord Errant of the Sacramentum - who was greatly impressed by the young man’s courage in the face of the beasts. Though Amartis still had a little under two years left with the legion, he remained in contact with Gaius and immediately joined the Sacramentum at the end of his service, having finally found the fulfillment he searched for all of those years.
For two years he served the Sacramentum, pledging his life to the goddess Astara and the protection of the people. Eventually he was name the Keeper of the Maledictus Interfectors, tasked with rebuilding the organization which was nearly wiped out during the war with the Rivlans. Unfortunately for Amartis, the Lady Astara gave him a word that would change the course of his life forever. The Lady instructed him that was to make for the March to rally the people of those lands to quell the onslaught of the Primordials. This meant leaving the luxuries of Hadria behind indefinitely.
In the year of 1022 of the 5th age, Amartis made his way north with Gaius and other Hadrians who decided to cross the Maw. He never did get to reconcile with his family but did have many heartbreaking goodbyes with those he counted as close friends.
As the Hadrians crossed the Maw, they were immediately met with hostility and resistance... and bloodshed. The poor welcome wouldn’t last however, and as they spent time seeking to aid the people of Whitehurst their message of a coming darkness proved true. Goblins attacked the local populace with such a cohesion that had not been seen by their like before. The beasts uncharacteristically wielded magics and attacked with coordination. This lent the opportunity for the Sacramentum - and the Hadrians as a whole - to prove their good intentions to the locals of the area.
In 1023 Amartis would accompany his father and Sacramentum to Schlosswald Garrison as a member of the Hadrian delegation. Upon his father's death during the valiant defense of the place he would take up the mantle of Lord Errant.
