The Hadrian Empire fields a vast military to unite Humanity and maintain control over its holdings both in the March and in Terris. A single independent unit is known as a legion, capable of sustaining itself without support for long periods of time. Due to the Empire's vast geography, these legions are often highly unique and feature their own distinct identities and customs unique between one another. That is not to say there are not equally important commonalities between them - the foremost of these being glittering harnesses of plate or formidable tower shields that lock into nigh-impenetrable walls.
Previously known as the Potentate Guard and Senatorial Guard. Established by Potens Orsa, it is the oldest legion of Hadria and was formed out of the phalanxes taken into Mariador. In the Nova Regnorum they are in charge of security in the Solar Palace and its surrounding grounds, guarding the Empress and ensuring her transportation is protected when on campaign.
Established upon Potens Orsa’s return to the capital during the Bellum Hadraziana following the conquest of Mariador. Since their foundation they have overseen policing, firefighting, building structures and maintaining the Capitola and the surrounding countryside.
The third legion was established to hold Mariador and the following conquered regions to ensure security and stability under new rule. It would be the second legion across the Maw tasked with escorting emissaries to Goldenfold and making camp outside the city to begin negotiations. It has been reported that when diplomatic talks failed (for a number of possible reasons) the camp was likely attacked from the city walls. III Legio besieged the city until it fell. The legion was then renamed to Aurum, with a banner symbol of Red Roses on a Golden Field.
Established to begin a conquest of all neighboring nations and regions that would not submit to joining the Hadrian Potentate willingly. Hard fought legionaries of great fame served in IV Legio and would go on to be great leaders and senators for the many regions of Hadria, even into the Nova Regnorum.
Established during the time of the Potentate to assist in the conquest of what would become the Hadrian Empire as the conditions of the battlefield and Empire changed. It would see service in every era since, and continues to serve in the Nova Regnorum. Fittingly, it would also be the fifth legion across the Maw to replace Legio IX. Supported by sages and diplomats, they have been ordered to either unite or subdue the nations there in order to fight against the growing power of the Void.
Established to conquer, hold, and eventually defend Vespara.
Established to support Legio VI during Vittoria’s War. It would eventually be the fourth legion across the Maw, known for their specialty in siege warfare, sent to assist in the siege at Goldenfold but arrived just after the city fell. It subsequently helped to secure the city and surrounding areas. They are currently stationed in the West March in the event that open hostilities resume. The legion’s banner symbol is a Golden Tower on a red field.
Established to protect the newly formed Senate after the fall of the Hadrazian Dynasty. Repurposed after the Senate was dissolved by Empress Elizabetha and renamed after III Legio was sent across the Maw to support the war in the March. Current mission is to hold and defend Mariador.
Established to specialize in high altitude recon and small unit tactics was tasked with pressing North, into the mountains. Third legion to cross the Maw and lost on campaign. Few, if any, survivors are believed to be alive. Banner is a Snarling Wolf under a Crescent Moon (charcoal on light gray).
Established for further exploration and show of power to the southern regions. Trained largely in horse tactics, the name of this Legion is derived from the speed at which the could move and the thunder of their horses’ hooves.
Established to secure and defend Lusant.
Established to conquer, hold and eventually defend Tarez.
Established to explore unknown regions and establish footholds in wilderness territories of foreign lands. Would be the first legion across the Maw and up the Lift in full. Legio XIII’s mission was to establish a base of operations and secure space for further Legions to follow in the name of the Empire’s growth. The legion’s banner symbol is an Owl in flight carrying a rope burning at both ends on a red field.
Established to conquer, hold, and eventually defend Beausanne.
Established to secure and defend Brigantia.
Trained in surviving great cold and thin air of snow peaked mountains, Legio XVI secures and expands the Empire’s lands in regions others would freeze to death in.
Established to conquer, hold, and eventually defend Terris.
Established as a decentralized force to patrol all regions of the Empire as a show of power from Empress Elizabetha.
Established by Empress Elizabetha to find a way across the Maw and build the lift. Its recruits would be a mixture of citizen and prison volunteers. Many would lose their lives serving and are memorialized on an obelisk in the courtyard of the legion headquarters in the Capitola.
Named after the general of the Hadrian League, Anora Hadraz. Established by Empress Elizabetha on her 50th birthday and its mission and purpose are shrouded in mystery.
