The Hadrian Empire today is composed of eleven provinces: Hadria (the Capitoline), Mariador, Vespara, Tarez, Lusant, Beausanne, Altamira, Nobrea, Brigantia, Terris, and the West March. The Free and Imperial Domain of Lockshire functions as an autonomous extension of the West March.
Of these, Lusant, Altamira, and Nobrea were integrated into the Empire without armed conflict. Due to its vast size and decentralized nature of its population, Terris is afforded the most autonomy of all the provinces and governed mostly by local custom with moderate Imperial oversight. Brigantia on the other hand are governed by military authority, centered in the provincial capital of Rostetten. Feuds between local polities, occasional rebellions, and cross border raids from the Horse-Lords of Terris occur with an alarming - but tolerated - regularity.
Culture among the provinces is not static. You are not limited by your character’s origin in any capacity - it is simply to add some flavor when building your character.
Istane is the fourth province to have joined the Empire. Once an empire in its own right, it was annexed in the wake of a war waged over control of the future province of Lusant.
Beausanne is the sixth province to join the Empire. Centered on the mountain range known as Otho’s Embrace, it is split between coastal desert and highlands nestled between mountain peaks.
Terris was the ninth province to join the Empire. Its geography is defined by its proximity to the Dragon's Maw.
Brigantia is the tenth province to have joined the Empire. It is governed wholly by military authority, as many amongst its population chafe against Imperial rule.
The West March is the eleventh and most recently organized province of the Empire. It is the core of Imperial power in the March and its only holding there.
Lusant is the fifth province to have joined the Empire, and did so through treaty not long after the annexation of Tarez.
Altamira is the seventh province to have joined the Empire, and is the largest of the three provinces which comprise the Imperial South.
Nobrea is the eighth province to have joined the Empire, and is the smallest of the three provinces which comprise the Imperial South.
Formerly known only as Lockshire, the Free and Imperial Domain of Lockshire is a Hadrian occupied city in the Middle March on Lake Dakara.
