Lord-Errant Gaius Helios, Spring of 1023

Upon crossing the Maw and taking the lift, the Errants where then caught in the Battle of the Marshes leaving grievous wounds upon the Order. The losses were heavy and one such loss was none other than the Lord Errant, Gaius's Father along with his Council of Keepers.Â
Gaius took this loss heavily upon himself, and he was now next in line to become the Lord Errant of what use to be an order a thousand strong. Now, it was only just a handful of Errants.Â
Gaius though left in his torment knew he would not be alive if it was not for a young warrior named Amartis who saved his life. Through the next ten years of war in the March with the Rivlans, Lord Errant Gaius did his best to choose his battles and keep the focus of the Order on the Cursed instead of taking Rivlan lives.Â
Upon the war ending with the Treaty of the Hounds the Lord Errant went home one last time to rebuild the Order before returning back to the March to once again fight for humanity against the Cursed, this time with his adopted heir Amartis; now Keeper of the Maledictus Interfectors.Â
In 1023 Gaius Helios led the Sacramentum to Schlosswald Garrison and joined the Hadrian delegation. Here would meet his death in battle during the defense against the cursed, and his son would replace him as Lord Errant.Â
Yet this would not be the end of Gaius Helios. Through fell magics he would restored to a mockery of life as a Death Lord of the newly risen Undead Malevolence. With their armies at his command he seeks to bring all living things into the embrace of death.
The House of Helios is a young house in the Hadrian Empire, numbering only three generations. For years it teetered on the brink of ruin and desolation, with no heir or claimant.
Its origin lies with the titling of De'stus Helios following a gloried tour through the many tournaments held throughout the Empire. Even the greatest duelists were like amateurs before him, and wealth piled before him. With his wife beside him, he turned to yet greater deeds: establishing a familial manor and a worthy legacy.
That legacy would come in the form of four sons, each of which who built names of the same merit as their father's. Two were blessed with the skills of a sage, one with an unrivalled intellect and skill with coin, and the last a soldier of renown within the Empire's legions.
During one fateful evening on a holiday which has a name forgotten, the Helios family gathered at their manor. Merriment had since quieted, and its members long retired to their chambers and the comforts of hearth and home.
Cries of terror from the lower chambers pierced the night and roused them from their slumber. De'stus, ever vigilant despite their old age, charged down the stairs with great haste. He knew not what he would find, but still charged forth.
Upon reaching the ground floor, he was met with the corpses of his sons and their wives. Red poured from their throats, torn open with savage implements. Confused and still reeling from the night's merriment, he rushed outside to find who had torn his family apart.Â
There he found the culprits: emanations of the void itself. Cursed creatures, foul goblins with weapons still wet from his families' blood and the riches of his manor upon their backs.
He knew then the family name would begin and end with him. Mounting his horse he rode after them for two days and two nights without stop. He leapt upon them with unmatched fury. Dawn broke as the last of the foul beasts was felled. Then, in anguish he wept. Yet no tears came.
In his desperation he resolve himself to die. As if by the will of the gods a cry echoed through the cold morning air. Amongst the detritus he sought out the cry and found a simple cloth bundle, a pin with his family crest upon it. Within lie his grandson, spared the cruel fate within the family manor for one that even De'stus could not imagine.
Hope replaced the desperate thoughts within his mind. With the child in his arms, he returned home.
Thus De'stus built the legacy he had sought all along. With his great wealth he turned the manor from a humble home to a fort and training yard dedicated to slaying the cursed so that no one else would ever again share in the sorrows that he had experienced at their hands.Â
So into the world came the Maledictus Interfectors, with De'stus passing to pave their way. Forevermore would the doors of the House of Helios remain open to all who would seek it out; be they peasant or of noble birth.
