Anti Ragging Committee

Pushpanjali College of Education has a Zero Tolerance Policy towards ragging.

The UGC Anti Ragging Information Guide lists the following punishments for those indulging in ragging of any kind.

·          Any student or group of students found guilty of ragging on campus or off campus shall be liable to one or more of the following punishments:

·          Debarring from appearing in any sessional test/ university examination or withholding results

·          Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges

·          Withdrawing scholarships and other benefits

·          Suspension from the college for a period of one month

·          Cancellation of admission

·          Debarring from representing the institution in any national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc 

·          Rustication from the institution for periods varying from 1 to 4 semesters or equivalent period

·          Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution

·          Fine up to twenty-five thousand rupees

·          Imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine which may extend to ten thousand rupees or with both

·          Collective punishment - When the students committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure community pressure on the potential raggers.

Students can approach the Principal to report cases of ragging.

Pushpanjali College of Education upholds a Zero Tolerance Policy towards any form of ragging, in alignment with the legal mandates. As part of this commitment, an Anti-Ragging Orientation Session is organised every year to sensitize students about the seriousness of ragging and ensure a safe learning environment on campus.

The orientation session is designed to educate students about what constitutes ragging, highlighting that ragging includes not only physical harm but also verbal abuse, harassment, and psychological pressure exerted on others. Students are informed about the Anti-Ragging Act and the consequences of engaging in such activities. It is made clear that no excuse or justification is acceptable under the college's strict anti-ragging policy.

In addition, the session provides clear instructions on how students can report any instances of ragging. Multiple avenues are discussed, including directly contacting the Principal whom students can approach in confidence, using the helpline numbers, etc.

To strengthen the visibility and accessibility of the anti-ragging message, informative posters are displayed at prominent locations throughout the college premises.

Furthermore, all students were encouraged to submit an Anti-Ragging Undertaking, acknowledging their understanding of the policy and affirming their commitment to maintaining a ragging-free environment. As mandated, every year, the college submits compliance on the website of Centre for Youth (C4Y) which works as Monitoring Agency in association with the Ministry of Education, Government of India and the University Grant Commission (UGC), Government of India.

A programme was conducted to orient students about the Anti Ragging Committee  of the College and also inform them about the implications of their actions. Students were also given information about the helpline numbers and members of college  Anti Ragging Committee  members  Dr Agnes Dcosta , Associate Professor  conducted the programme. Students filled an affidavit regarding Anti Ragging.
