Collection and deposition of plastic waste in collaboration with NGO Dhyaas

Dhyaas Foundation is an NGO in Vasai that works towards reusing and recycling of solid waste. Ms Kirti Shende, President , introduced the students to the working of her organization and demonstrated few techniques of reusing the waste materials. She oriented students to the methods of segregation, cleaning and collection of solid waste generated at their homes. Students collected many reusable household waste items and deposited them at various collection centres during the period of six months from January to April 2021.


Teaching a needy student- “Each One Teach One”

Due to the lockdown many students lacked devices to learn. They were lagging behind in their studies. To help such students, S.Y.B.Ed students undertook teaching and coaching of school/college students for 20 hours. During this activity teacher trainees guided and helped one student in their studies. As it was pandemic time, the necessary SOPs were followed by students and this activity was conducted on a one-to-one basis.


Outreach through Action Research on Waste Management

 15 students undertook an Action Research on Sustainable practices in Waste Management. As part of the action caried out, the students selected ten households each and oriented them to manage waste wisely. The members of these households were informed about the various Rs like Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Refuse and Renew so that they could make choices that were eco friendly. Each student drew up an Action Plan and executed the same to help the participants of the Action Research become responsible members of society.


Outreach through Action research on Energy Management 

11 students participated in an Action Research on Energy Management. They oriented the participants regarding adopting ways that will help to conserve electricity and save fuel. They used  videos, activities and discussions to help the participants realise their role in conserving scarce energy sources and adopting eco friendly measures.


Cleaning one’s neighbourhood (Swacchata Abhiyaan)

As it was the time of lockdown, community-based cleanliness drives could not be held on the Gandhi Jayanti. Hence students worked on individual basis, following all prescribed Covid protocol and cleaned their neighbourhoods. They also spread the message of civic cleanliness especially in the light of Covid pandemic and urged their communities to follow safety guidelines and dispose face masks with care.
