Diwali Celebrations
Diwali was celebrated through special assemblies that highlighted the significance of the different days of the festival. Information was shared about the significance of the five days of Diwali. The importance of the ecological and spiritual values associated with the festival were emphasized. Enactment of the events associated with Diwali added to the spirit of the day. A diya decoration and lantern making competition saw the enthusiastic participation of the students. A food festival was organised and it gave us the joy of relishing delicacies from different parts of India.
Constitution Day
Constitution Day was observed on 26 Nov 2022. The assembly was organised by Itihaas History Club. Ms Vellina Dabre elucidated the significance of the day by tracing the important milestones in the history of the Indian Constitution. The Preamble was read by all and time was spent reflecting on the values enshrined in the same.
International AIDS Day
International AIDS Day was observed on 1 Dec 2022. Ms. Glysam Ferreira discussed the theme Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV and highlighted the need to be empathetic to HIV infected. A small dramatization was enacted to dispel myths that are associated with AIDS
Human Rights Day
A special assembly was held to observe International Day of Human Rights on 10 December 2022. Ms Sania Furtado elucidated the significance of the day and explained the highlights of the UN Declaration of Human Rights. A reflective exercise was held to emphasize our role in protection of human rights.
Bhartiya Bhasha Diwas
11 Dec is the birth anniversary of poet Subramania Bharati, a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry who penned songs to kindle patriotism during the Independence movement. 11 Dec 2022 being a Sunday, the day was observed on 12 Dec as Bhartiya Bhasha Divas to create “language harmony” and develop a conducive environment for learning Indian languages. Ms Prarthana Rajapkar highlighted the significance of the day and emphasized how languages have enriched our culture. During the past five decades, many Indian languages have become extinct. Hence the need to conserve languages as duly discussed. The role of teachers in preserving the linguistic diversity and recommendations of NEP 2020 were deliberated upon.
Christmas Celebrations
Christmas was duly observed with a prayer service that showcased a tableau on the brith of Lord Jesus. This was followed by some carol singing. A joint celebration was hosted with our sister institutions and there was much fun and frolic as Santa Claus joined the celebrations.
World Braille Day
World Braille Day was observed on 4 Jan 2023. The students presented the life of Louis Braille and the events that led to the invention of Braille. Empathy towards persons with visual impairment was created. Awareness about vision impairment and the steps that can be taken to avail the condition of such persons was discussed. The presentation was conducted by Ms Glysam Ferreira, Ms Sabah Khan and Ms Naziya Khan.
National Youth Day
National Youth Day was observed on 12 January to commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, one of India’s greatest spiritual and social leaders. Ms Sheryl Dcunha elucidated the theme of the day Viksit Yuva-Viksit Bharat. The ideals and teachings of Swami Vivekananda were presented and the students reflected on social responsibility of youth.
Republic Day and Voters Day 2023
Republic Day was observed on 26 January 2023 along with the other institutions run by the management. The flag was hoisted by Sr Julie, Principal of St Aloysius D.L.Ed Colege. Patriotic songs and speeches brought out the significance of the day. One 25 January Ms Mansi, Ms Rachel and Ms Janvhi conducted a special assembly that explained the meaning of a Republic. It being National Voters’ Day the importance of voting was also highlighted. A kahoot quiz was conducted. Students prepared posters on themes related to Republic Day.
Talent Display
The students of FYBEd showcased their versatile personalities as they presented energetic dances and charmed us with their melodious singing during the Talent Display programme held on 6 February 2023. . They displayed their culinary skills . They also displayed their art work in the form of painting, crochet work, craft articles, nail art, mehendi and articles made by recycling material.
Marathi Rajbhasa Diwas
27 February, the birth anniversary of well-known Marathi poet Kusumagraj , is observed as Marathi Rajbhasa Diwas Glimpses of the richness of Marathi culture were showcased by the students. Students recited poems by Kusumagraj and elucidated the rich literature of Maharashtra. Presentations on traditional and folk dances, cuisine, places of historical interest were showcased.
National Science Day
National Science Day celebrated on 28 marks the discovery of Raman effect. This event was celebrated on 2 March in the college. It was organized by the Science pedagogy students of FY.B.Ed and was guided by Dr Sheetal Chaudhari and Ms. Steffi D'costa. The celebration included speeches, live experiments and many more activities. The event was used to spread awareness about the importance of science in the daily life of the people. The theme for National Science Day, 2023 ‘Global science for Global wellbeing’ was extensively discussed. After a short prayer, information about the Raman effect was shared. Science experiments were performed by Fr. Alex and Sukanya where improvised apparatus were used to explain chemical changes one witnesses at home. An interesting game based on Pictionary was then played where pictures were drawn and the audience had to guess the scientific term it portrayed.
International Women's Day
International Women’s Day was observed on 8 March 2023.The theme for the year DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality was elaborated during the assembly conducted by Ms Rachel Gomes. A short video prepared by the students was showcased. This was followed by short enactments on the lives of empowered women.
Art and Craft display
On 9 and 10 March 2023, Resource persons from Pidilite industries demonstrated clay moulding, T-shirt painting, glass painting and a host of other art and craft-based activities. The students showcased their creative products.
World Water Day
World Water Day 2023 was observed through a special assembly hosted by Ms Supriya Pereira and Ms Sweenal Pereira. The assembly focused on SDG 6 Water and Sanitation for all by 2030. Activities, reflections, slogan writing and a quiz motivated everyone to be an active participant in water conservation. A pledge to conserve water was also taken by all.
Street Play Competition
On 8 Feb 2023, Shri Juran Lopes and Shri Maxwell Rose were resource persons for a workshop on the presentation of Street Play. The students participated enthusiastically in the same as they learned how to use street play as a medium for spreading social awareness and initiating social change. Dr Sheetal Chaudhari and Ms Steffi DCosta coordinated the workshop.
Students scripted and presented street plays on relevant themes like Road Safety, Susbtance Abuse and Addiction to Devices. This competition was held on 28 March.
World Health Day
A special assembly was conducted by Ms Sharon Gonsalves and Ms Glysam Ferreira to mark the 75th World Health Day. They focused on the theme Health for All. A quiz competition and in-depth inputs on safeguarding one’s health through clean environment were the highlights of the presentation
World Reading Day and World English Day
World English Day, also known as English Language Day, is celebrated every year on April 23 to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare. The students of English pedagogy hosted a special programme that elucidated the significance of English. They conducted many activities based on vocabulary building and general awareness of English as a global language. It being World Reading Day the value of reading was emphasized and book reviews were presented. The programme was conducted under the mentorship of Sr Delicia Fernandes.
World Earth Day
World Earth Day is annually observed on 22 April. A special programme was held to mark the day on 28 April 2023. Ms Sherona DMello, Ms Arpita Andrandes and Ms Jobina Rumao conducted the programme.
They explained that the World Earth Day theme 2023 was "Invest in Our Planet". The theme called out companies to opt for sustainable practices. The theme is in continuation of the successful 2022 campaign. The anticipated outcome of this movement is a transformation in the business and political climates, as well as a shift in approaches to addressing climate issues.
The team elucidated that the purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the rapidly-rising levels of pollution, climate change, and other circumstances that contribute to damaging the environment and threaten the survival of our planet. Various tips towards sustainable living were shared and a Kahoot quiz on the topic was conducted to raise awareness about the significance of the day.
Activity of Electoral Literacy Club held on 12 May 2023
Informed voters form the backbone of democracy. The Electoral Literacy Club of the college organized a special programme on 12 May where the significance of exercising one’s vote was discussed. Videos were used to demonstrate how to register new voters through an app. The role of the Election Commission of India and our own responsibilities as voters were elucidated by Ms Cheryl and Ms Jessica. A Kahoot quiz made the session interesting. Students participated in a Digital Poster Competition based on the theme. The programme was carried out under the guidance of faculty member Ms Steffi Dcosta.
Yoga Day
21st June is celebrated as World Yoga Day . On 23rd June 2023, the college organized a Yoga workshop in collaboration with the members of Sahayog Centre, Vasai. The resource persons enlightened the participants regarding the science of yoga and explained the role of the facets like posture(asana), dhyan(meditation), aahar (diet), pranayam (breathing). Basic asanas and pranayama techniques were demonstrated and students practiced the same under the supervision of the experts.
Guru Pournima Celebrations
Guru Purnima was observed on 3 July 2023. Ms Sherona Lopes elucidated the significance of a guru who dispels the darkness from one’s lives. The significance of the celebration of Guru Purnima and its connection with Sage Vyas were elaborated. The cultural importance of the day was highlighted. The festival transcends the boundaries of religion. The practice of Guru Purnima can be traced back to multiple legends. The Yogic tradition says that on this day, Lord Shiva shared his wisdom with people and became the first known guru. The other popular story is the above-mentioned birth of Ved Vyasa, who shared the knowledge of the Vedas with his four disciples. In Buddhism, it is said that Buddha performed his first sermon for his people on this day in Sarnath. Moreover, Jains believe that on Guru Purnima Day, Lord Mahavira found his first follower. Reflection was conducted on the role of guru in the life of students. The students expressed their gratitude to their gurus and greeted them on the occasion.
Van Mahotsav Celebrations
Van Mahotsav 2023 or the Forest Festival was from 1 to 7 July The college had a special programme on 6 July to spread awareness on forest conservation. The assembly was led by a team of students where the group presented the background of the significance of Forest Week which was initiated by the Former Minister for Agriculture K.M Munshi. The assembly included a skit depicting the Chipko Movement. Deliberations on the importance of trees were held and some local species of trees were discussed. Students prepared bookmarks from recycled paper and wrote slogans on tree conservation.
World Malala Day ( activity on Women education)
Every year on July 12th, the world celebrates International Malala Day in honour of the Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai. Malala Day holds a great significance that highlights the importance of education and women’s rights. Our F.Y.B.Ed. student Miss Mansi Gohil conducted a special assembly to celebrate and honour Malala Yousafzai. Brief information on her early life, work and her unwavering spirit was given. Video showcasing her speech at the UN for equal access to education was shown to the students. Poems written by Malala were read out by the students. The assembly concluded with a message that individual determination and standing up for one’s beliefs can have a profound impact on the world.
Management Day celebration
16th of July marks the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of the Carmelite order. It is also celebrated as Management Day. The day began with the eucharistic celebration followed by a pious prayer service by the students of F.Y.B.Ed. A short skit depicting the miraculous appearance of Mother Mary to Simon Stock was performed. The sisters of Our Lady of Grace Convent were felicitated. The prayer service was followed by the entertainment programme wherein the students performed on the traditional folk songs of Vasai. The celebration was drawn to end by a speech by D.Ed. faculty member Ms. Sangeeta Cerejo followed by the vote of thanks proposed by Manager Sr Sharlet
Kargil Vijay Diwas
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every 26th July in India, to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War. It is a significant and solemn annual celebration that honours the brave Kargil War Heroes. To pay tribute to their valor and dedication of the Indian soldiers, our F.Y.B.Ed. student Ms. Nisha Marvi conducted a special assembly. Brief information about operation Vijay and the various soldiers who took part in the Kargil war was displayed through effectively made PowerPoint presentation. Videos highlighting the locations in the remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir where the war took place were shown. Feelings of solidarity and secularism were inculcated amongst the students.
Lokmanya Tilak Punyatithi
“Swaraja is my birthright, and I shall have it” These words spoken by the great leader, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Lokmanya Tilak, resonated with the entire country as they fought a successful battle to resonated with the entire country as they fought a successful battle to regain freedom from the British. August 1st marks the death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak. To remember his great deeds a special assembly was conducted by the students of F.Y.B.Ed. Miss Riya Lopes briefly highlighted upon the early life and education of the great personality. A small enactment narrating an incident from the school life of Lokmanya Tilak was carried out by the students. The students reflected upon the principles and life lessons learnt from the great leader.
World Day of Indigenous People
The International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is observed on 9th August each year to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. To date, numerous indigenous people experience extreme poverty, marginalization and other human rights violations. Our F.Y.B.Ed. student Ms. Roshni Iyer conducted a special assembly highlighting the importance of Indigenous people. The distribution of the various indigenous communities across the globe was put forth through PowerPoint presentations. She briefly elaborated on the various tribal communities across India, their habitat, culture, food, occupation, clothing and their various indigenous practices. The students of F.Y.B.Ed. performed the Tarpa dance which is tribal folk dance of Maharashtra. The theme for 2023: Indigenous Youths as Agents of Change for self-determination was effectively put forth. The assembly concluded with self-reflection by the students on the theme.
Independence Day
Independence Day in India is celebrated every year on 15th August. The day marks India’s freedom from British Rule. It is a very auspicious day for Indians who get an opportunity to pay homage to all freedom fighters. Our F.Y.B.Ed. student Ms. Riona Mascarenhas conducted a special assembly on Independence Day. She highlighted the changes taken place since Independence till date in terms of various aspects of development. The theme for Independence Day 2023 “Nation First, Always First'' was also briefly elaborated upon. A role play competition was organized for the students of F.Y.B.Ed on the theme: Pillars of Indian Freedom Struggle .The flag hoisting ceremony was honoured by our Manager Sr Sharlet Xavier. Followed by patriotic singing by the students. The day was drawn to end with a patriotic spirit amongst the students.
Shravan Mahatmya - Celebration of the Shravana Month
The Sawan month, also known as Shravan month, is considered auspicious among Hindus. It begins on July 4, 2023 and continues for about two months. Devotees worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with devotion and observe fasts. Our F.Y.B.Ed. students Ms. Aastha, Ms. Shruti, Ms. Sukanya and Ms. Janhvi conducted a special assembly to highlight the importance of these significant months. The students elaborated on the importance of fasting and how it has scientific reasonings. The various auspicious festivals which fall into this season were shown through meaningful videos.
Onam Celebration
Onam commemorates New Year’s Day and is also recognized as a harvest festival. Our F.Y.B.Ed. student Miss Mary George conducted an assembly to highlight the importance of Onam celebration. The culture, traditions, food and the traditional clothing of the southern states was depicted through a PowerPoint presentation. The significance of the harvest festival in a farmer's life was effectively put forth. The long living tradition of boat race was shown to the students through videos. Miss Mary George also elaborated on the theme of compassion and kindness.
Farewell Function for SYBEd
Farewell is not a bitter parting but wishing that the students Fly High in the open sky of the world. The students of F.Y.B.Ed organized the farewell function for the S.Y.B.Ed. as they come to the end of the their B.Ed. course. The programme was planned and co-ordinated under the guidance of the co-curricular activities incharge Miss Steffi D’costa and Miss Sanika Asolkar. It started on a prayerful note with the prayer service followed by the formal welcome by the Principal. The programme was anchored by Ms. Riya Lopes and Miss Blessy George. The formal award distribution was carried out by our faculty Ms. Sonia Bombacha. The students of F.Y.B.Ed performed various dances, monologues, singing performances etc. The students of S.Y.B.Ed. expressed their gratitude through thanksgiving as they recalled their fond memories of college days. The day was called to end by a formal vote of thanks by F.Y.B.E.d student Ms. Imaan Ranje.
