Like I said before, we News Crew members LOVE Mario Kart, even Jonathan, who isn’t a gamer like us, likes it too! But this time, it's going to be different other than just race courses. Because we are all “super” fans, I wanted to do a saying of battle stations into my friends' favorite battle courses. The thing is we all LOVE a lot of them, too many to write in one article. For instance, I love 36 of them, Justin L. loves 25 of them, and of course, Helfry loves 29 of them! So this week, instead of another written article, I have created a visual presentation for everyone to check out! Mario Kart Arcade GP, Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, Mario Kart Arcade GP VR, and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit don't have any battle courses, which is ashame. But don't worry, there are battle courses from other Mario Kart games to comment, and to let me know your favorites, if you please!

As many of you know, we News Crew members LOVE Mario Kart, even Jonathan, who isn’t a gamer like us, likes it too! Because we are all “super” fans, I wanted to do a deep dive into my friends' favorite race courses. The thing is we all LOVE a lot of them, too many to write in one article. For instance, I love 100 of them, Justin L. loves 30 of them, and of course, Helfry loves 57 of them! So this week, instead of a written article, I have created a visual presentation for everyone to check out! Mario Kart Arcade GP VR doesn't have any race courses, which is ashame. But don't worry, there are race courses from other Mario Kart games to comment, and to let me know your favorites, if you please!

Nsmb DS is for the DS, Nsmb Wii is for the Wii, Nsmb 2 is for the 3DS, and Nsmb U is for the Wii U. Anyways,
I am back, and here to talk about the downfall of the New Super Mario Bros. Series.
While Nsmb DS and Nsmb Wii were the most loved, Nsmb 2 and Nsmb U were the least loved. And here’s why. To start off with Nsmb 2, some music assets from Nsmb Wii were reused. The overworld and athletic themes have more vocal samples, and the indoor stages have the “bah bah” vocal samples now, allowing Skeleton Koopas (dry bones) to dance to the beat.
Nsmb 2 is all about the coins, which is why a flying yellow block will follow you around until you select a stage. Hitting the block will then have it attached to your head, allowing you to spawn already-collected coins. The block disappears when you reach 100 coins or get hit by an enemy. In Nsmb DS, and Wii, you only trigger red rings. However, in Nsmb 2, you trigger a golden ring, which makes everyone turn into gold for a limited time. There is also a coin counter. The more coins you collect, the more coin stacks are there in the main menu. Collecting 1 million coins will reward you with a statue of Mario on the main menu.
From what I’ve seen in YouTube comments on the beta version, collecting 1 million coins rewards you with Wario as a playable character, but that was scrapped in the final version with the statue. If you reach 1 trillion coins, the coin counter is then maxed out with a compliment given to you. All power-ups from Nsmb DS return, but under one removal.
In Nsmb DS, You go through toad houses to get power-ups, where Toadsworth waits for you. The green toad house is for 1-up mushrooms, the red toad house is for roulette blocks, and the orange toad house is for the mega mushroom. Since Nsmb Wii, the orange toad house was replaced with a yellow toad house, for invincibility stars. Toad also waits for you in all the houses. Stuff like the tanooki leaf from Super Mario Bros. 3 and the invincibility leaf from Super Mario 3D Land make a return. The tanooki leaf allows you to fly in a raccoon outfit. The invincibility leaf makes you invincible until you finish the level.
You will then revert back to normal. The invincibility leaf appears in an assistance block if you die in a level 5 times. The stage is then not fully clear until you make it through without needing any assistance. The game also has a coin rush. You go through levels in packs under the name of a specific power-up. The game also introduces a new power-up called the golden fire flower. It allows you to excruciate anyone in your path from a 20-mile radius. You also get a lot of coins this way. If you play as Mario, you turn to gold. If you play as Luigi, he turns silver.
Next up is New Super Mario Bros. U, for the Wii U. Nsmb U reuses all tracks from Nsmb Wii, except for the main menu, final boss, credits regular overworld, and athletic themes. All are replaced with different music, and finally, too! All power-ups from Nsmb Wii are reused, with the addition of a new power-up called the Super Acorn. The super acorn allows you to gain the abilities of a flying squirrel. Peach’s castle is overtaken by Bowser. The world map is also in the style of Super Mario World. There is also a random enemy named Nabbit. He likes to steal power-ups from random toad houses. To catch him, you must go and redo a level and catch him in 100 seconds. If you catch him, Toad rewards you with super mushrooms. If you don’t, and somehow manage to clear the level, it wasn’t worth it.
In Nsmb DS, the flagpole has the icon of a skull. In Nsmb Wii and moving forward, the flagpole has the icon of Bowser’s face. When sliding down the flagpole in Nsmb DS and Wii, the flagpole goes down with you. However! In Nsmb 2, the flag transforms into the icon of whoever you play as and goes up to the height of wherever you grab the pole from. The sound is also replaced. In Nsmb U, both flagpole mechanics from 2, Wii and DS are used here, but the sound remains the same as in Wii. The flagpole sound was a bit different in Nsmb DS. There are also levels you need to pay in star coins to get access to.
In Nsmb 2, you only have 6 worlds to go through. Beach and Forest are fused together, and so are Canyon and Sky. To unlock the two special world locations, you have to take the cannon and run run run! The special worlds you unlocked were a Mushroom world and a Flower world. This wasn’t the case in Nsmb DS, Wii, and U. When the cannon shoots you, you just fly to your location. In Nsmb DS, forest and sky are special worlds. You have to defeat castle bosses with the mini mushroom to access the forest and sky, from desert and winter. In Nsmb U, World 1 is Acorn Plains, and World 8 is Peach's castle overtaken by Bowser.
Starting in Nsmb DS, you have to pay 5-star coins to access a toad house or an alternate level. Paying it will also allow you to save your progress. After beating the game and collecting all-star coins, you will get access to a special blue toad house. The toad house consists of 4 different backgrounds. 1 each costs 20 star coins. Background changes do not affect the main menu.
Starting in Nsmb Wii, a special world is unlocked after you beat the game. In World 9 on Nsmb Wii and U, you have to collect all star coins in levels of a specific world to unlock a level with the number of the world you collected the star coins in. In Nsmb 2, you have to pay 9-star coins to enter the yellow toad house. Accessing the levels costs 90-star coins.
The more missions you succeed, the more stars your file will get!
For the usual 8 world locations, let me give you the list:
Mushroom Kingdom (DS, 3DS, and Wii)
Desert (All of them)
Beach (DS, Wii, and Wii U)
Forest with poisoned water (All of them)
Winter Wonderland (All of them)
Mountains/Canyon (DS, Wii, and Wii U)
Sky (DS, Wii, and Wii U)
Bowser’s Land (DS, Wii, and Wii U)
Star area (Wii, 3DS, and Wii U)
So what do you think? Have the Nsmb series gone downhill or uphill from here? You decide!
Shh!!! Don't tell Nintendo... They hate fan games...

If New Super Mario Bros. was already new, what if it was even more new? Like, what if it was, more Newer?...
Hello, everyone! Today I will be talking about the Mod/ROM hack for New Super Mario Bros. that changed everything! The name goes by Newer Super Mario Bros. Newer SMB is a mod/rom hack for the original Nsmb for DS and Wii. The mod/rom hack was developed by devoted Nintendo fans. Newer SMB Wii was developed over the span of 3 years, and so was Newer SMB DS directly after Newer SMB Wii.
A lot of comments on the gameplay videos of Newer SMB Wii and DS were complimentary for being “way more creative than Nintendo at courses” on YouTube. To start off why, let’s start with Newer SMB Wii. Newer SMB Wii also introduced the return of the Hammer Suit powerup from SMB3.
(Aliases to be used: Newer Wii, Newer DS, Nsmb Wii, Nsmb DS)
Newer Wii was released in 2013. The plot is for Newer Wii to take place after the events of Nsmb Wii. As usual, something happens to the Princess as seen in an unused cutscene from the lead developer’s YouTube channel under the name “Skawo”. The group’s name is Newer Team.
World 1 takes place on Yoshi’s Island.
World 2 takes place in a Desert, again. But this time with an underground area in the second half.
World 3 takes place in a mushroom land.
World 4 takes place in a Japanese village.
World 5 takes place in a winter wonderland with an added volcano in the second half.
World 6 takes place in a spooky area, appropriate enough for October/Spooky Month.
World 7 takes place in the mountains and outer space in the second half.
World 8 (as always) takes place in Bowser’s residential domain.
World 9 takes place in an area with the “Newer” logo filled with levels from all previous areas!
After completing the game and saving the princess again, you get rewarded with another set of worlds with more fun levels to play!
World A takes place in a forest in the fall.
World B takes place on an island of items big and small.
World C takes place in a city in the sky.
World D takes place in a cave filled with crystals.
World E takes place on various cliffs, filled with bob-ombs!
The game music consists of original compositions for the menu, overworld, file select, world map, and athletic themes. The game also consists of remixes of Mario music from previous games. Instead of the usual toad houses, each world has its own shop, where you can exchange star coins for various power-ups, such as the Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, Ice Flower, Mini Mushroom, Invincibility Star, Propeller Mushroom, Penguin Outfit, and the Hammer Suit. The game reuses a mechanism from Super Mario World where you hit a message block and a message pops up. Each tower and castle has its own boss. You have to do stuff that doesn’t rely on generically jumping on the enemy. Each level and world it's in also have its own name. This is a mechanic from Nsmb U implemented in Newer Wii.
Newer Wii may be the main mod of Nsmb Wii, but it isn’t the first. Mods like Another SMB Wii, Newer: Holiday Special, and Newer: Summer Sun were released before Newer Wii. 1 year later after the release of Newer Wii, another mod called Newer: Falling Leaf was released by Newer Team. It is a 1-world mod where you just run through levels just for fun. It takes place in the fall, and it takes place in winter when you reach the castle.
The plot of Newer: Falling Leaf is that you suspect Bowser is up to his old tricks again. Luckily, it wasn’t. You just see a random yellow button laying around. Hitting it will give you access to a “farewell” level on an unknown island you can only access with yellow blocks that are only invisible until you press a yellow button. The farewell level consists of coins and star coins in the layout of the word “Congratulations!!!” You then hit a message block with a message saying “See you in Newer Super Mario Bros. DS!” This implies that Newer DS has already started development.
Previews were posted on Skawo’s channel. From what originally used to be a level and tileset modification to a much more custom one. The map layouts are the same as in Nsmb DS, but not the levels.
World 1 is the Mushroom Kingdom, but in the fall.
World 2 is a cave with crystals.
World 3 is a fusion of beach and forest, like in Nsmb 2.
World 4 is a spookified forest.
World 5 is a winter wonderland at night with added lava.
World 6 is a fusion of outer space and mountains, kind of like in Nsmb 2, except it was clouds and mountains fused together.
World 7 takes place in the clouds, with a thunderstorm level.
World 8 is the desert now, with the second half being Bowser's residential domain.
In Nsmb DS, World 6 and 8 have 2 tower levels. After Newer Team modified everything, both worlds only have 1 tower level because that’s how it was in Nsmb Wii, 2, and U. Worlds 4 and 7 were also the secret worlds. After a few coding here and there, World 6 is the secret world, and it is only accessible via the World 5 cannon.
The cannons in the original DS game lead from World 1 (and 2) to 5, World 3 to 6, World 4 to 7 and World 5 to 8.
In Newer DS, World 1 leads to 4, World 2 leads to 5 (like in the original game), World 3 leads to 7, World 4 leads to 8, and World 5 leads to 6. Newer SMB Wii never had cannon levels. Only the original Wii game did.
Nsmb DS had more additional changes during the development of Newer DS, such as replacing image assets of the coins, enemies, and level clear animations for Mario and Luigi. The Newer Team even went out of their way to replace the Nsmb DS voice lines, coin sound, red ring sound, etc. with the ones in Nsmb Wii. The block hit sound is entirely different. There would even be a boss battle in a ghost house level when getting a secret exit, which was implemented by Newer Team. The plot is that Bowser Junior is at it again, as usual. Newer DS has more original compositions, more Mario remixes, blah blah blah. Newer Team also implemented a custom World Map Select screen with the Special World music from Super Mario World.
Newer DS was gonna have an update where everything had remixed music in 2020, but due to Covid-19, the update never came to be. Nsmb DS has gravity-defying physics which were unused. This was a perfect opportunity for space levels on Newer DS. Newer Team even planned on doing this “Newer” trend with Nsmb U, but that also never came to be. All that remains is the trailer music, which is only played if all three files have 3 stars in Newer DS.
Both Newer Wii and Newer DS have a mechanic where if you save your game on a specific world, the title screen will show the protagonists on that world in the main menu. Both Newer’s also have custom file select screens. Newer Team also has a website, where it’s home to both of the hacks! Go check it out and show them some love! And subscribe to their YouTube channel as well if you’re a Mario fan! This is the last Mario-related article for now! Because starting Wednesday will be some serious business!

Hey guys Justin here So I want to talk about the rainbow road 3DS version in Mario kart. The race starts off with a short straightaway, followed by a sharp turn to the right, then left, going around a planet. Afterward, there are three platforms that the drivers drive and jump off each (similar to the area before the temple in DK Jungle). Next, players drive around another planet but are spiraling down as they do so, with drop-offs allowing for tricks. The track then comes to a rainbow-spotted Mushroom Trampoline, and then a sharp right turn. After the turn, players have the opportunity to snatch some item boxes and coins on a waving road (similar to Mario Kart Wii). Section two starts off with another sharp turn followed by a Glide Ramp, which activates the Glider to ride onto the rings of a Saturn-like planet. Players have to dodge holes in the rings before they then come to a section where they can hit some Dash Panels for speed boosts. Players then activate their Glider again after hitting the next Glide Ramp at the end of the rings. Once landing, players take three turns, all loaded with Dash Panels. Next, there is another wavy road, but this one has holes in it. Once the drivers make it through the wavy road or fall through, they land on the moon, where they need to dodge rolling Chomps, and they can trick off of craters for little boosts. Though there's no water in the moon portion, its low gravity works identically to the physics of driving underwater, so sometimes players can fly far with just one trick. Section three starts with some conveyor belts that give little boosts, then leads into a turning tunnel with Dash Panels and Glide Ramps at the end. The track splits into two parts, then three, then two, before fusing back into one. This part is filled with ramps that can be used to go through rings for extra speed. If players hit a Glide Ramp, they have to dodge asteroids, but try to pass through rings at the same time. The track ends with a part that increases in altitude, then decreases again, leading to one small jump facing the finish line. This version of Rainbow Road returns as the fourth and last course of the Moon Cup in the Booster Course Pass DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It is based on its appearance in Mario Kart Tour, albeit with a graphical overhaul, giving the course a neon aesthetic. The Dash Panels on the Saturn-like planet’s rings now have boost rings on top of them. The boost rings and the star-shaped rails on the track now resemble the ones used on N64 Rainbow Road. Some of the star gates the player drives through are now silver instead of gold. The rainbow arch on the start-and-finish truss is now a complete circle. The planets throughout the course further resemble real life planets, or Rainbow Road stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. There are so many rainbow road versions I can race on! which rainbow road version do you like?
