Update 12/20/2021: WE WON FIRST PLACE THIS YEAR'S COMPETITION! đ”Ceee-le-brate good times, come on!đ” No?
This week (December 13th-17th) PS138 l is having our annual door wars competition at Park West High School ( or as I like to call it: Class Winter Door Competition). The objective of this competition is to decorate the classroom door with something Winter themed. We chose to decorate our door with snowflakes. We are not the only ones to decorate everything for Christmas. This year is particularly special because the competition was cancelled last year due to COVID. This year spirits and creative energy are high, making up for missing out last year!Â
I spoke with Park Westâs Unit Coordinator, Ms. Allie Collacchi and according to Ms. Allie, âWinter Door Wars is all about a fun yearly competitionâ that excites people! She also stated â[the competition]unifies the school and ends the semester on a âdecorativeâ noteâ. Â
This year the competition judges will be the school janitors and security staff. They will review each door and select a favorite. The winner for whoever has the best winter graphics on their classroom door will win a golden trophy. The winner of the 2019 winter door wars was Ms. Morganâs class. Although Ms. Morgan is no longer with us, Ms. Christina, who has her room now, may continue being a teacher in 475C where some of my former 2018-2019 classmates reside during school hours.
This week I have been observing door creation and am amazed at the details some classes are including. Ms. Leahâs class door is being decorated by Mr. Nico. His door is quite simply astounding - he is creating a tilted snow globe. The Inclusion classroomâs door is being created by Ms. Astrid and includes a swing with lights wrapped around the ropes. We are still waiting to see what will go on the swing. Our classroomâs door is decorated with snowflakes in various colors. The idea was courtesy of Noah, a founding member of the V62 news crew. He created 3D snowflakes at home and brought them to our class, inspiring us to make more and use them as part of our theme! Ms. Jeanineâs classroomâs door consists of a snowman wearing a mask outside because of COVID, Ms. Tanjie classroomâs door consists of elves on the shelves, and the door to the main office consists of images of app icons.
This year is sure to be a close competition. Check back next week to see who wins and for photos of each door.
Update 12/17/2021: Ms. Astrid put a Snowman on the swing. And that snowman was a Sussy Baka!

Today I am reporting some big news! Class V62 will be opening and running a Snack Shop. We will set up our snack shop in the Park West cafeteria and selling delicious snacks like chips, cookies, drinks, candy, and so much more. The snack shop will be open in January or February. You may be wondering why we are starting this small business? Our class is starting a snack shop because it will help us practice vocational skills, money and math skills, social skills, and help us meet new students in Park West. Due to COVID, we are not going out in the community for worksites so starting a worksite in the school building will help us make money and prepare for work when we graduate. Are you excited for the snack shop? Whatâs a snack you would like to see at our shop? Â

This weekend I watched a movie called Rumble. This movie is about Wrestling but not WWE wrestlingâŠmonster wrestling! This is an animated movie produced by paramount plus and some of the characters are voiced by actual WWE wrestlers. Roman Reigns voices the character of Ramarilla and Becky Lynch voices the character of Axehammer.Â
In this movie monsters wrestle each other in a big stadium. Some are experienced and some are not. The character Winny tries training an inexperienced wrestler. This movie is rated PG and is good for people of all ages, even kids. .
Overall I liked this movie because it was funny and l enjoyed the fighting. If you like wrestling, monsters, and animated comedies, this is a perfect movie for you to watch during the winter break!
I give Rumble 5 stars. Make sure to tell me if you like it!                 Â

Table of contents:-TWO MINOR CHANGES AT CORLEAR GARDENS-
The name and address of the building were put on above the lobby entrance doors, and just the address was put on above the basement entrance door where the OP laundry room was at. All three electric gates at Corlear Gardens were to consist of new stop signs after the previous ones were vandalized and faded to white. A suburban home next to the upper parking lot at Tibbett Towers was in the process of being demolished.
-DESCRIBING MORE OF THE ELEVATOR INTERIOR AT TIBBETT TOWERS-
The elevators at Tibbett Towers were in residential service as usual, despite the fact that the left was even and the right was odd. All elevators consist of a digital indicator above the inner doors, separated from the button panels.
The phones on all four are also separated from the panels. The button panels themselves consisted of an area to put a paper note. Inside that built-in area was a paper note indicating that the inspection certificate is located in the management office. The note wasnât specific enough. In building B was a boiler room in the basement and a management office in the lobby.
Building A does not consist of those two rooms. All four elevators also consisted of a small note, which was requested only 4 people to be in the elevators. The elevator walls and doors were dark and light brown, in the form of checker squares. There is also a digital indicator above the elevator outer doors in the lobbies of Tibbett Towers. Nowhere else. This could result in impatience on residential floors and the basement.
There are arrows that light up when the elevators move. The arrow lights are located above where the elevator buttons were. There were no lights on the buttons themselves. Consider that a big help.
In the basement above the elevator outer doors in said building were a guide to which floors the elevators go to. âODD FLOORS B-M-1-3-5-7-9-11â, âEVEN FLOORS B-M-2-4-6-8-10-12â. M means to lobby. The word ââODD FLOORSâ is not seen on building A. While Corlear Gardens is a 21-story building and Nathan Hale Gardens is a 22-story, Tibbett Towers is a 12-story building. My motherâs friend also lives in a building with even and odd floor elevators. That building is 13 stories, consisting of a basement and ground floor. And the only way to get there is the right side odd floor elevator there.
-MODERNIZATION IN PROGRESS.-
On August 26th, the left side elevator was to be disabled. I thought they would just change the buttons, like in Nathan Hale Gardens. Every time I would come back home from school, there would be ambient drilling noises. The interior on the left side elevator was fully gone. All that was there was just a shaft light. The outer doors of the left side elevator remain. On floor 6, the elevator outer door window was messy. As we transition into October, a button panel was drilled in.
One of the mirrors was taken down in the lobby where the elevators were to make room for the new button panel. Big holes were drilled in all walls where the elevators were to make room for the new button panel. Weeks later, they drilled a huge hole the size of an elevator outer door to put the actual elevator outer door in. The outer door and frames were not brown. They were purple.
All pre-existing elevator outer doors on all even floors were replaced with new ones. This occurred in the lobby and basement as well. As the modernization went on, the maximum number of people inside the elevators was no more than four. That rule was not followed on the right side elevator, as it still goes to odd floors. Presumably, seven residents went into the elevator.
Half of them could be living on even floors. Another week later after putting new elevator outer doors on all floors, the elevator was turned on, but it wasnât in residential service. It was blinking âO.Sâ Meaning it was out of service. Little would I know that until later on when the left side elevator was fully in residential service. I pressed a button on the new panel, and a blue light lit up. I was excited to anticipate the refurbished elevator In October during the modernization.
In November 2017, I rode the left-side elevator in its brand-new condition. The walls were purple, the ceiling was different, and the new inner door had no window. The left elevatorâs bell shares the same dinging noise as the left elevator on the left side of Nathan Hale Gardens. There was a customized lobby button consisting of two lights. The lights on all of the elevator floor and call buttons were blue, while in Nathan Hale Gardens were yellow.
In Corlear Gardens, the elevator call button lights were yellow, and the elevator floor button lights were beige. During this time at Tibbett Towers, there were chairs in the hallways, so we could sit down and sit for the only elevator available. Days after the refurbishment of the left elevator, handlebars were added, and the right elevator was already in progress with being modernized. A special key was put on the left side elevator.
It consisted of Up, Down, Normal, and Off. A note was also put on describing what âI.Nâ and âO.Sâ meant. While I was going down with my grandma to Corlear Gardens, the elevator stopped at four for some residents and refused to go down. The door kept opening, and the elevator indicator decided to put an end to this game that the door itself was playing. Nudge mode was activated, and the elevator made a loud shrill beep. The Indicator was blinking âN.Dâ for nudge mode, just like at Corlear Gardens.
Except the elevators at Corlear Gardens made a loud buzzing noise when nudge mode was activated. Both elevators in both buildings as of 2018 consist of indicators blinking two letters for certain modes. Except at Corlear Gardens, the elevator indicators DO NOT blink âO.S.â For out of service. New braille number plates were added on both elevator door frames when adding and replacing the pre-existing elevator outer doors with new ones were fully done.Â
-MINOR CHANGES AT CORLEAR GARDENS AND TIBBETT TOWERS-
As of September or October of 2016, the scaffolding returns to both sections of Tibbett Towers. The scaffolding on Tibbett Towers building A remained there until June 2017. The scaffolding on Building B just remained there for the rest of 2017. Just like Corlear Gardens, at Tibbett Towers, some lights outside and inside the lobby turn on and turn off in a group. For Tibbett Towers, that was about to change. The outdoor lighting in building A consisted of two white squares and a yellow circle. On building B was a pair of yellow circles and white squares, in the form of a pattern; square, circle, square, circle.
As I said, most of the outdoor lighting at Tibbett Towers was yellow. When I came back from school, I saw some guys working on the lights. I didnât understand what was going on until it was nighttime. Usually, when I would look out the window, I would see yellow lighting. However, that night, I saw white lighting. I didnât even know what happened or what was even going on. I went outside with Grandma to the playground at Corlear Gardens, and saw that there was all-new outdoor lighting outside Tibbett Towers!
I didnât expect new lighting! In Corlear Gardens were different floor number plates on the residential floors. The old ones had a different font and the new onesâ font looks more squished. I was visiting my grandmaâs friend on 7B at Corlear Gardens at that time. I rode the elevator to get to 20 and then to 7. Because that was Grandmaâs mission. From there, I saw the minor changes on not only the residential floors but the basement as well.
There was a womenâs and a menâs bathroom. The womenâs one said âladiesâ and the men one said âgentlemenâ when I actually lived there. As of November 2017, all of that was changed. âUpâ on the bells no longer light up on both elevators at Corlear Gardens. New lights for the stairwells and basements at Tibbett Towers were also installed during the installation of the outdoor lighting.
-A SHORT PAUSE ON ELEVATOR MODERNIZATIONS IN BUILDING B-
It is January 2018 and both elevators in building A at Tibbett Towers were modernized. The bell on the right side elevator does not ring. In building B, the other pair of elevators were left alone at that time. In November 2017, after I and my mother were done with some errands, we parked at Tibbett Towers building B and (tried to) go down on the right-side elevator. When the door opened at the lobby, I pressed âbasement.â As soon as the door closed, the elevator moved down a bit, but it went back up and the door opened back up. This kept going on, so we had to take the left one instead, to head back to Tibbett Towers building A, where we really reside. In January 2018 at building B, I would expect this behavior from the right side elevator again when going inside it. The elevator did this behavior again.
Then, my mother had us exit the elevator, and what I saw after the elevator door closed was that it only moves when no one is inside it! There was also a yellow shaft light above that elevator as well. When February came around, it was time for modernization progress to start on the right side elevator on building B. There was a hole in the lobby wall where the mirror was. The hole was obviously for the new call button panel. Later this February, the scaffolding was officially gone on building B. The pre-existing doors were already replaced on the right side elevator, and in March, later on, the right side elevator was officially in residential service. It consists of a different bell ding. The left side elevator was left alone for a few weeks.
Me, my mother and my grandma took the time to ride both the modernized right-side elevator and the original left-side elevator at Tibbett Towers on building B for this time. When the final week of March came around, the pitch right side elevator bellâs ding was raised by a half. The left-side elevator was also available for one last time. The left side elevator was officially in progress with being modernized on the final days of March. During this time, the right side elevator consisted of beeping door sensors, just like in both elevators at Corlear Gardens. The right-side elevator at Tibbett Towers Building B also consisted of padding during the process if I remember correctly.
On April 2018, I rode the elevators at Nathan Hale Gardens on both sides, Corlear Gardens, and all elevators at Tibbett Towers that were modernized so far. Half of them were for occasional needs, (TT Building A, NHG Right side), and most of them were for a ride on the elevators (NHG Left side, TT Building B, Corlear Gardens.) During February, I rode the elevators at my uncleâs place for occasional needs. He lives on 3. And just like at Nathan Hale Gardens, the lobby is also a basement/bottom floor. The elevator arrows are programmed just like the ones at Tibbett Towers formerly.
They only change after the elevator door opens and after going down or up. They also did NOT consist of bells. The cameras inside those elevators were from âCantek.â The elevator button light goes out as soon as the number changes to the floor it was to go to. The elevators at my uncleâs place also beep like as heard in a school, store, or workplace. To start April off, I do so with those elevators at my uncleâs place. That was no joke. My mother needed to visit him again.
-A NEW HOBBY?!-
During January and April, I started filming electric gates. This was foreshadowing a new hobby for me. For January, it was an apartment building in Riverdale with a parking lot on Irwin Avenue. The electric gate there was black. The gate had different kinds of diamonds, and the electric gate operator controlling it consisted of a literate car alarm for a âgate in motionâ alarm. A light was also connected to the gate operator. The light blinks at the speed of a commercial fire alarm.
This made the gate seem special to me. In April, I filmed the electric gates at Corlear Gardens, electric gate B at Tibbett Towers, and both of the electric gates at Nathan Hale Gardens. The âgate in motionâ alarm for Electric Gate B at Tibbett Towers is the literal beeping sound of a truck backing up. By May, I was officially fixated on electric gates. The left side elevator on Tibbett Towers Building B was halfway from fully modernized at that time. All new elevator doors were put over the pre-existing ones.
In June, my mother had a key with access to the lobby, laundry room, playground, and parking lot. (Brand name MUL-T lock.) She used that key to activate electric gate A at Tibbett Towers, and I filmed that gate. Modernization on the Left side elevator in building B was officially fully completed at that time. It consists of the same bell ding on the right side elevator but in its original tone.
The left side elevator was the one to consist of beeping door sensors now. The right side elevatorâs door sensors were silent again, just like how it would usually be in an elevator at a school or workplace. The right elevatorâs padding was also taken down. Later on in June, Grandma came with me so I could obviously ride the left side elevator at building B. That did not happen. The left-side elevator door refused to close. More residents came inside the left-side elevator along with us, so they could go to their apartments. We went out, and the left elevator door refused to close, resulting in a nudge mode. We took the right-side elevator instead.
-LAUNDRY ROOMS IN TIBBETT TOWERS AND CORLEAR GARDENS-
While Grandma and I were outside on the playground at Corlear Gardens, I needed to use the bathroom. As always, the laundry room was my only solution. I filmed the 2017 laundry machines for a few seconds in March of 2018. In April 2018, the Same case scenario happened at Corlear Gardens. But this time, my grandma needs the bathroom too, before I proceed to do my elevator mission.
A pair of Maytag washers were in action. To keep me entertained as I wait for Grandma to finish, I filmed the pair of Maytag washers. What I heard from them was a buzzing noise. The buzz means they have transitioned into the drain cycle. In May 2018, they put up a big flag on the Lobby entrance at Corlear Gardens. Before proceeding to do my elevator mission again, I needed to use the bathroom. Except this time after using it in the laundry room, my grandma was interacting with a resident that recognized us from when we lived there.
I filmed Two Wascomat Generation 7 washers and a Maytag washer doing work. The single dryer from AmericanDryerCorp was also doing work. When I saw the Wascomat Gen7 washers speed up, I heard what sounded like the motor from the previous Gen6 ones that were here when I still lived here. The washers continued to do the washes at regular speed. I filmed them all as my grandma was interacting with the resident. I proceeded with my elevator mission.
The right elevator came down to us. We rode it from the basement up to 21, and down to 1, as usual. Me and my grandma exited the elevator, and I ended the video with the big flag.
In June of 2018 at Tibbett Towers, our laundry had to be done. From there, I filmed the Gen6 Wascomat Washers speeding up. When I heard the motor speed up as I filmed the drum speed up, they sounded nothing like the ones that were formerly at Corlear Gardens. (Little I knew, at Corlear Gardens, was 30lb, and at Tibbett Towers was 45lb) The dryers however function and sound the same.
The Wascomat crossover washers were entirely different from their commercial counterparts. Whenever the Wascomat crossover washers sped up, they would shake. And when there were only four minutes left, it was pure chaos at full speed. The RPM on the crossover counterpart was 2x faster than their commercial counterparts when it was four minutes left!
-ELEVATOR MODERNIZATION COMPLETE. WHAT HAPPENS NOW?-
The Elevator modernization at Tibbett Towers was completed. What happened now? Directly after elevator work at Tibbett Towers was done, 315 Edwardian was next to have its single elevator modernized. The indicators were the ânumbers in the middle of arrowsâ type, and it was probably breaking down a lot, leading to modernization. After the mod was complete, it now consists of digital numbers. I peeked through the window and saw the interior of the elevator still remaining there.
The modernization might have been minor. During the mod, I was walking home with my mother, I saw Electric Gate B opened up for a resident trying to get in. I was able to film electric gate B there, as A was stuck open because the elevator company was outside. Just like at Tibbett Towers, the âgate in motionâ alarm at 315 Edwardian is the literal beeping sound of a truck backing up.
At Tibbett Towers, concrete was put on where there would be saddles for the new elevator outer doors. The new elevator door saddles were already installed in June. In July, there were some major renovations...

Virtual tour of Park West high school
-Salutations people. Today I will tell you 14 facts about the school I reside in.
-MASHUP OF SCHOOLS?-
The building consists of six schools. The first school is Food and Finance high school. As seen by the name and icon of the school, FFHS is a culinary high school. The second school is the Facing History high school. Their mission is to graduate lifelong learners with the skills and knowledge for academic and professional success. The third floor is the High School of Hospitality and Management. In HSHM, students are taught various respective management skills. The fourth school is Manhattan Bridges high school. In MBHS, the teachers are committed to helping students achieve at high levels. The fifth school is the Urban Assembly high school of Design and Construction. UASDC prepares students for architecture, engineering and design. The sixth and final school is PS138M. âA world of many options.â Thatâs where MY school is.
-BASEMENT GROUND FLOOR-
Inside the basement there is a music class. There are also entrances to an auditorium. FFHS is located in the basement as well. The motor room for elevator 2 is located next to the elevator itself. There are also entrances to a mechanical room. AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.
-FIRST FLOOR-
The first floor is the main entrance. School security resides there. There are also metal detectors and machines that are used to scan the studentsâ backpacks to make sure they donât have a gun. There is a Custodiansâ office next to where the security resides. There are also auditorium entrances there. FFHS and FHS are located there as well.
-SECOND FLOOR-
On the second floor, there are two cafeterias. One of them has windows. The other doesnât. There is also a library. The motor room for elevator 1 is located next to the cafeteria with windows. FHS has additional classes on this floor.
-THIRD FLOOR-
HSHM and MBHS are located on the third floor. The hallway doors next to the MBHS office consist of art with words saying âSĂ, sĂ puĂ©dĂ©!â which means âYes we canâ in spanish. In the HSHM area are two offices. A plant laboratory and pastry room are also located on this floor.
-FOURTH FLOOR-
UASDC, HSHM and PS138M are located there. Us PS138M people are to reside in a little area without windows much to my teacher (Ms. Sarahâs chagrin). She has a small light lamp on her desk to mimic the sun.
-FIFTH FLOOR-
The fifth floor consists of an area on the roof for us to enjoy the outdoors, two gymnasiums and a dance room. The Medical office is located close to elevator 1. A girlsâ locker room is located next to Stairwell F and elevator 1. The boysâ locker room is obviously located far away from both. A lunch room for PS138M staff ONLY is located next to a PS138M workshop class as well. A related services office is also located on five as well. That is also for PS138M students as well. Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapies *were formerly* done there. This floor also consists of an office for the PS138M high school psychologist to work in.
-STAIRWELLS-
For Stairwell D, the entrance doors on four consist of rainbow colors. Before, they had the art of the sun rising, cranes, and some buildings. If you exit D on five, one, or the basement, elevator 1 is a few steps away. This can make it look like it is stalking you. For stairwell E, if you exit E at the basement, the mechanical room entrance is close by. For stairwell A, if you exit A on one, you can only go left. Elevator 2 is a few feet behind the stairwell doors on A. MBHS students are to take and ONLY TAKE stairwell C, as according to the paper on the stairwell doors. Exit stairwell F on five and you got a gymnasium, mechanical room and a girlsâ locker room close to it. Stairwell B is close to D. All stairwell doors consist of a fire alarm above and the switch next to them.
-ELEVATORS-
Elevator 1âs appearance consists of bright white lighting, white floor tiles, and pairs of doors on two sides. Elevator 2âs appearance consists of tinted dim lighting, black floor tiles, and only one pair of doors. Both elevators require cards/passes to call them and select a floor. They also appear to have been modernized a decade ago. Both elevator doors consist of their own bells. While elevator 2 only goes up to four, elevator 1 goes up to five. If you look closely, you can see the top of the elevator cab. This only occurs on five. This can be helpful if the elevator is working and the numbers are burnt out. I dreamt there was a third elevator in this school building. Only the first floor is accessible with and without a card. This occurs for both elevators.
UPDATE JANUARY 18 2021: Elevator 1 has black floor tiles now.
-AUDITORIUM-
The auditorium consists of a huge number of chairs that consist of numbers, some speakers, lights, stairs, and a stage for various students to dance on for specific events. It is connected between the basement and first floor.
-ROOF-
The roof is a great place for some PS138M staff to eat lunch outside. There is also a greenhouse. We are also able to go outside for some fresh air. Those two pairs of doors on the left and right sides lead to stairwells A and B. A and B lead to the roof. The doors are locked on the entrance side, meaning you can only EXIT from the roof and automatically go DOWN the stairs!
-GYMNASIUMS AND DANCE ROOM-
One gymnasium is small. The walls used to be beige and red. Now their tint was changed to purple, just like in the cafeteria. The other gymnasium is big, it consists of seats just like at an actual baseball game and big electric fans hanging from the wall. The dance room is a room of its own. We do movements there.Â
-ENTRANCE-
There are four entrances in this building. One entrance is the main entrance where the security resides. The other one leads to stairwell A in floor two. Only PS138M students and staff can enter and exit through there. The other two lead to stairwells D, B and E. All entrance doors are red.
-LIBRARY/MAILROOM-
Inside the library are books, rooms and Facing History classes. There is also a room for the person in charge of the library to reside in when she is bored. The library is also a mail room. Carts are used to carry the packages. The binders are used to log in the packages. The bins are where you put the mail in. Locations to deliver the packages in this school are the custodian and health offices, and all six high schools. Each school/office had to be a different color on the icon and log-in binder. Numbers as well. Black tables are limited for PS138M students and staff ONLY. I wish you all a happy new year! If it will even be happy because of everything that happened almost two years ago...
