BMX Racing
BMX started in California in the 1970s. It was started by motocross riders. People started to race their dirt bikes on dirt tracks. BMX bikes were designed to get more people to motocross, but it started a sport. The equipment you need is a full-face helmet, gloves, long pants and long-sleeved shirt. Riders must wear helmets when riding bikes. All riders must ride within the confines of the designated course area. No one under 18 years old can race without parents. Riders must follow all traffic laws.
Newton’s 1st law is motion and forces. How our sport uses Newton's 1st law: Bike wheels spin around. Forces used drag and friction. My sport is BMX racing. Drag is used when you drift. The friction is on the tires when you drive straight. That is about my sport BMX racing.
Newton’s 2nd law of motion says more force is needed to accelerate more mass. In BMX racing the forces are pedaling and muscle force. The mass is the bike and the rider. Acceleration is going faster or stopping or when they are in a corner. The bike rider knows how much force their legs need to move faster based on their mass and how fast they want to go.
Newton’s 3rd law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In BMX racing when the racer pushes down on the pedal the wheel spins backward and the bike goes forward. The shocks go down when it is bouncy, the suspension goes back up when the rider is off the ground. BMX racers know how hard to pedal to go fast enough to win the race.
