TechSmith Relay is screen recording software that, in addition to recording everything that happens on screen, will capture audio via a microphone, and can provide an additional video feed via a webcam. You will require the recording application on your local machine, your captured recording will be sent to a central server for processing before being placed on Compass for viewing in multiple formats across different platforms and devices. The server allows easy embedding of videos within Moodle modules for the appropriate class.
Click on the AppsAnywhere icon on any University machine and type 'Relay' into the search bar. If you then click to 'Launch' it will load within your cloudpaging player and you will see the image on Step 2
Alternatively, if you have administration rights to your computer then you can download the appropriate recorder by going to https://relay.port.ac.uk/relay/ where you will be directed to login with your standard university account details on a Single Sign On page.
Once logged in, go to the Client Downloads tab and select ‘Download Recorders’ and choose the appropriate one for your system (for a networked PC running Windows this would be the Windows version).
Choose the appropriate option for your machine/device. If you have difficulty logging in please contact elearn@port.ac.uk.
Launch Camtasia Relay Recorder by selecting the appropriate icon from the start menu (Start -> Programs -> TechSmith -> Relay Recorder) or desktop shortcut or via Cloudpaging Player and log in using your standard University account details.
Complete the metadata about your recording and configure the system – if you have multiple displays click 'select a display to record' to choose the required display.
Note: If you have multiple microphones ensure you select the correct microphone for your recording, by clicking the 'Audio' button at the top of the window, otherwise sound may not be recorded.
Begin recording by clicking the large red ‘rec’ button – it is recommended to use the blue ‘test’ button to record a ten second test recording to ensuring sound and screen capture settings are correct.
When you have finished recording, click the ‘stop’ button.
You can now review your recording if desired. Before shutting down or logging off YOU MUST upload your recording to the server by clicking ‘Submit’. Ensure that you have selected a profile (see note) and have added a title to your recording. You can also trim the start and end of your presentation by clicking ‘Trimming’ and setting the recording beginning and end points.
Logging out or shutting down during the upload process can cause problems and recordings to be lost so please refrain from doing this as long as possible. The time required for this will vary depending on the length of your recording, the resolution of your screen and the size of the file (which increases dramatically if video is captured on screen).
Note: The profile that you should select is dependent on the content of your recording. If your recording is a Microsoft Power Point presentation then choose ‘Presentation’ otherwise choose ‘Video’. The ‘Presentation’ option will produce an automatically generated table of contents based on slide titles within your presentation. This is particularly helpful for viewers of longer presentations who may wish to find a particular section of a presentation for revision. We have also supplied the Lecture and Lecture downloadable profiles, to make it even clearer for content creators. Please do not choose any Fuse profiles if on a desktop PC as these profiles are there specifically for the Fuse Mobile Device App, which is covered in another guide.
The following profiles may be visible to you on Relay. Not all profiles are available to everyone and depends on a number of factors. If you are missing a particular profile you need, please contact elearn@port.ac.uk with the request. Please do not use upload and decide later. This is really for bulk uploaders such as Online Course Developers who need to assign a user and a profile to a recording at a later date.
Lecture : Standard profile for recording lectures that will be made available through Compass.

You will receive two emails from the TechSmith Relay server, the first should be received within an hour and will let you know that your recording has been uploaded successfully, it will provide a temporary link where you can view your recording.
The exact content of the emails will vary depending on the upload profile you selected in Step 6. Below is an example email for the ‘video’ profile.
Note: If this email takes longer than an hour to arrive please contact elearn@port.ac.uk.
The second email will be received once your recording has been fully processed (within a maximum of 24 hours) and can be found within Compass.
