Which tools can I use for formative assessment?

A number of Moodle tools can be used to provide feedback on formative assessment including (where the links below demonstrate how to create the resources) the following six tools:

• H5P

• Moodle Quiz

• Edword, Moodle and Turnitin Assignments

• Moodle Lesson (formative questions and learning content with branching based on student's performance)

H5P

Some H5P activity types offer the option of giving instant feedback to students on their question responses.
Here are a few examples of instant feedback in action:

• Simple essay paragraph activity

• Multiple choice questions

• Speak the word set

Moodle Quiz

Moodle Quiz questions allow you to add formative feedback about why the answer to a question is correct or incorrect. This makes a Moodle Quiz a useful tool for students wanting to test their knowledge, and to improve their knowledge with multiple Quiz attempts.

The screenshot below gives an extremely basic example of how to add formative question feedback when creating a Quiz question, given the following question:

What is the value of the expression: 3³?
