Create accessible documents

As of September 2018 , any documents we produce as a learning resource online must be accessible. Refer to the guide to creating accessible documents to make sure they meet the WCAG 2.1 AA standards when we design our documents. It is best to avoid accessibility pitfalls rather than fix them later.

MS Word documents

Microsoft Word is the most common application used by content creator to create their content. Follow the step by step guides below to create accessible documents.

PDF documents

PDFs are normally created in a source document (Microsoft Word or other program) and then converted to PDF. Making a document accessible in the original is much easier than trying to fix a problem transferred from original to the PDF. So make sure your source document is accessible before converting it to PDF.

Once you have an accessible source document, follow this step by step instruction to prepare and convert a Word Document to accessible PDF.

Avoid using 'Print' > 'Print to PDF' to create PDF files. The generated file will NOT be accessible.
