Assessment submission

What can I do remotely?

You can create a range of assignments that can be completed remotely including Moodle Assignment, Google Assignment or Turnitin assignments. Students can submit their work remotely.

Which type of assignment should I use?

Moodle and Turnitin assignments are well established technologies; this assignment comparison guide will help you decide whether Moodle or Turnitin best fits your needs. Google assignments has replaced the large file submission tool that was in Moodle assignments.

Turnitin assignments

What does the Turnitin assignment activity do?

The Turnitin assignment activity lets you create a Turnitin dropbox. The dropbox is where students upload their assignment(s) to Turnitin via Moodle.

Once students have submitted their work, the Assignment activity allows instructors to assess and provide feedback on the work using the tools available within Turnitin's Document Viewer.

Moodle assignments

The Moodle assignment activity lets you set tasks, collect work and provide grades and feedback.

Students can submit any digital content (files), such as word-processed documents, spreadsheets, images, or audio and video clips. Alternatively, or in addition, you can set up the assignment to require students to type text directly into the text editor.
An assignment can also be used to remind students of 'real-world' assignments, such as art work or models,
that must be completed offline and thus have no digital component.
Students can submit work individually or as a member of a group.

When reviewing assignments, teachers can leave feedback comments and they can upload files (such as marked-up student submissions, documents with comments, or spoken audio feedback).
Assignments can be graded using a numerical or custom scale, or an advanced grading method such as a rubric.

Final grades are recorded in the Gradebook.

Google assignments

What does the Google assignment activity do?

Using the Google Assignment activity you can create a dropbox, which allows students to upload an assignment(s) to Google Assignment via Moodle. Once submitted, the activity allows instructors to assess and provide feedback for student's written work using the assessment tools available.

Google Assignment allows for large file uploads. It is replacing the Moodle Assignment large file tool.

Assignments that do not require a digital submission can still be created at a distance by using the Moodle assignment tool. Feedback and grades can also be passed back to students remotely using this type of assignment.
