I Spy

Can you gather materials and objects to create a "I Spy" scene related to your book? Which items will fit the theme or message of your book? How might you show the characters or the setting? Which important parts of the plot will you represent?

Success Criteria:

  • I Spy picture contains a number of objects, related and unrelated to the book, for the viewer to see.

  • Objects are arranged so they use up the space of the picture and the photographer has taken the picture from above as a "flatlay" picture.

  • Photographer writes an "I Spy" riddle or description to help viewer find the objects related to the book.

I Spy Process:

  • Gather items that represent your book. Think carefully about the theme/message, characters, setting, plot.

  • Gather items the DO NOT fit your book as well!

  • Arrange your items on a plain, solid colour background and take a picture from above. Think of a "birds-eye-view".

  • Write a caption or a riddle to help your viewers find the objects in your "I Spy."

Spy is a children's book series with text written by Jean Marzollo, photographs by Walter Wick, and published by Scholastic Press. Each page contains a photo with objects in it, and the riddles accompanying the photo state which objects have to be found.
