Student Representative Council

Context

  • Recognition of the importance of student involvement in school decision-making
  • Recognition of the value of student input in the ongoing school development

Structure of the Student Council

  • The Class Captain represents each class group.
  • Class Captains meet with the Staff Liaison Person and the Student Executive twice during a term. At times Year level class captains and Student Executive will meet.
  • Student feedback is brought to School Executive on a regular basis.


Functions of the Student Council

  • To give students a forum to have their suggestions and opinions heard.
  • To share in decisions on school issues such as school structure, organisation, teaching and learning, school facilities and student wellbeing.
  • To build relationships and community school spirit through lunch time activities, Student communication, house activities and forums.
  • To ensure that all students are represented equally and respond to students concerns and needs.
  • To be proactive in bringing about change by presenting students' suggestions to the College Executive.


Class Captains

The Class Captain plays a crucial role in helping the class teachers in the smooth functioning of the class. She is a role model for other students, showing good leadership through effective communication and example. She is reliable, helpful, enthusiastic and considerate. She will act as the overall in charge of the class and coordinate all class activities, Hence, the class captain shall:


  • Ensure the participation of all the class pupils in the programmes and activities designed for the class.
  • Act as a link between the students and the class teachers.
  • Assist the homeroon teacher with the morning duties.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the class at all time.
  • Support the Mission Promoter with mission activities and coordinates all other class related activities.
  • Animate class members to actively participate in school activities such as swimming and athletic carnivals, dress up day, Chavoin day, academic challenges and other activities related to the Chavoin shield.
  • Maintain the decorum in the class in the absence of the teacher.
  • Look for the teachers, if they do not turn up within the first five minutes after the start of the class.
  • Make sure that the lights are switched off, windows properly shut, and doors locked before leaving the classroom in the afternoon,
  • Assist the students to keep the school grounds and the surrounding free of rubbish.
  • Be an active member of the SRC, participating in regular meetings with class captains of her year group and other associated meetings.


Mission Promoter

The Mission promoter is responsible for the promotion and support of the mission of the school. She has a strong sense of the social issues within the school, the wider and global Communities. As a role model and advocate the mission promoter will:


  • encourage class members to be actively involved in the spiritual and liturgical life of the school and promote both Gospel and Marist values.
  • promote the active participation of class members in both school and class activities especially those which involve any sort of fund raising or food collections for Social Justice and Mission areas. For example:
    • Caritas - Project Compassion
    • Marist Sisters' Missions
    • St. Vincent De Paul
  • assist the Class Captain when needed and take charge of her morning class duties when she is absent.
  • participate in the occasional meeting with other class Mission promoters and the Vice Captain for Social Justice and Community Service,
