1. Can I change from one elective to another once I start Year 9?
Answer: No you cannot. Once the school year begins and students receive their timetables, courses are considered to have started. Elective courses offered at Cerdon College are 200 hour courses (over two years) and therefore students cannot change from one elective to another.
2. What if I have changed my mind before the end of Year 8?
Answer: See your Guidance Coordinator as soon as possible to discuss the options that might be available to you. Remember, you wont be able to change from one elective to another once the new school year begins and you are in Year 9.
3. Do any Year 11 Preliminary or Year 12 HSC courses have a requisite course of study that I need to consider when selecting courses for Year 9?
Answer: There are no pre-requisite courses of study for Year 11 that require particular subject choices to be made in Year 9. However, language courses in year 11 can be studied either as a continuation of study from Years 9 & 10 (ie a Continuers course) or as a new course of study not requiring previous study (ie a Beginners course).
4. What if I find out after starting Year 9 that a future career or study pathway requires a particular course of study?
Answer: Most university, TAFE and other career pathways do not require any particular course requisites or assumed knowledge from courses in Year 11 or Year 12, let alone a pre-requisite course of study in Year 9 or Year 10. If you have any questions regarding career or study pathways you can always make an appointment with the College Careers Adviser or speak directly to the TAFE or University.
5. How will I make my requests?
Answer: An email will be sent to you with a unique password to enable you to submit your requests online.
6. How many electives will I study in Yrs 9 & 10?
Answer: You will study TWO (2) electives in both Years 9 & 10. These electives carry over into Year 10 from Year 9.
7. How many choices do I need to make?
Answer: Most students will get their first two requests of elective subjects. In the rare event that classes are not offered or full, you'll need to make two reserve choices.
8. When will I need to make my choices by?
Answer: By the end of Week 8
