In Visual Design you will be provided with the opportunity to explore the nature of design as a relevant field of the arts grounded in contemporary artistic practice.
The areas of print, object and space-time design are central to the study and making of this subject.Â
This course focuses on developing new skills across a range of media areas including computer graphics and some of the more traditional methods of the design process.
The individual student will also learn about the significance and prevalence of the field of visual design in a contemporary world and the ethical and environmentally sustainability of visual design practices.
Students will learn to:
Explore techniques for design art making in areas including print (magazine, newspapers & web design), object (jewellery, furniture and other forms of industrial & commercial design) and space-time design (animation & film).
Explore a range of ideas and interests in the world, and select, apply and utilise a range of materials and techniques to make visual design artworks.
Investigate computer-based technologies and the impact of these on visual design practices
Build a folio of work over time investigating and resolving a range of visual design concepts
Use a journal to document the investigation, development and resolution of visual design concepts, and ideas and interests in the world.
Students will be assessed under the following criteria:

Folio of work and a design journal (processing, experimentation and presentation)

You should enjoy being creative and have an interest in art and design
A willingness to learn new skills and a desire to be involved and experimental with your creativity and problem solving skills
The skills and content learnt in this subject are relevant and transferable to studying Visual Arts at a HSC level.
The skills and processes taught in this subject are relevant to the multiple careers in the fields of design.
