NESA has announced changes to the HSC Minimum Standard that take effect from 2018.
Year 9 NAPLAN will no longer be an early way for students to demonstrate the minimum standards to be eligible for the award of the HSC. This means that every student in Year 10 from 2019 must sit the Online Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Numeracy Tests to demonstrate the minimum standards. These standards are set the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 3. They must be attempted by every Year 10 from 2019, irrespective of their Year 9 NAPLAN results.
For Yr 10 students who sat NAPLAN in 2017 and demonstrated the minimum standards in Reading, Writing and Numeracy (that is, a Band 8 result in each domain) they will be eligible for the award of the HSC in 2021. Students in Year 10 who did not demonstrate the minimum standard in 2017 in one or more of the domains in Literacy (Reading and Writing) & Numeracy have two opportunities per year while at school to demonstrate the standard by sitting an Online Literacy and/or Numeracy Test(s). The minimum standard in these tests is also the ACSF Level 3.
