Music is a course that enables students to improve their self expression individually and in groups in a variety of musical skill areas including performing, composing and listening.
Music allows students to draw upon a range of skills to present works for a variety of audiences and purposes.
Students will learn to:
Develop performance skills on a range of instruments, in particular, on a chosen instrument.
Perform in groups and individually.
Participate in creative activities including songwriting, composition and recording.
Compose songs and pieces of music using technology.
Study and aurally respond to music in a variety of musical styles.

Students will be assessed using a variety of tools including:
Performance on an instrument of their own choice (including voice).
Writing melodies and accompaniments in composition journals and on Sibelius computer program.
Responding to music heard.
Review of an artist/band’s music.
Review of instrument groupings and tone colour in a range of styles.
You study music because you enjoy playing and listening to music.
You will have already enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and keyboard in the last two years.
It is advisable but not mandatory that you take tuition or practice on an instrument or voice when you are studying music.
You will have the opportunity to perform in class concerts.
If choosing Music, it can provide a good background for HSC Music.
Career options could include teaching, musician, musical engineer, composer, childcare, music therapy and performing.
