In Visual Arts you will develop the ability to see, understand and interpret images and objects. You will learn the skills required to make artworks in a range of media and to express and communicate your ideas and feelings. This will enable you to develop a positive concept of self through the inherent scope for creativity and individuality within the Visual Arts. You will understand the diverse nature of the visual arts, reflected in the work of artists, craftspeople and designers. You will learn to appreciate and value the contribution that artists and art students make to society.
Students will learn to:
Explore techniques for Artmaking in areas including Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Photography and Digital Imaging.
Use these art techniques to express own ideas visually.
Learn how you can think creatively.
Discover how and why Artists work.
Explore the ways in which artworks are made and discover how meaning can be conveyed and communicated through the Visual Arts.
Visit galleries and Art Exhibitions and take part in practical excursions to widen your experience of Art.
Understand and appreciate the diversity of Artmaking practices made in different times and places.
Exhibit and present your work and learn about connections within the Art world.
Examine the practices of Art Critics and Art Historians and learn how ideas and beliefs about Visual Arts are formed.
Writing strategies so that you can write in an informed and structured way about artists and artworks.

You should enjoy and have an interest in the Visual Arts
Techniques will be taught to you but a desire to be involved and experimental will help to develop your creativity.
Visual Arts gives you the opportunity to extend and develop your abilities individually.
Visual Arts develops your ability to think laterally and creatively to learn problem solving strategies.
Art materials will be supplied to you including an Art Kit and Visual Arts Process Diary (VAPD). The cost of this is covered by your Visual Arts fee.
The Visual Arts course in Years 9 and 10 provides excellent preparation for Visual Arts in Years 11, 12 and beyond.
